Just joined the forum. I live in Atlanta, Dekalb County and I am wondering what capabilities I would need in order to listen to APD or AFD? I would like to purchase a handheld radio that I can take in my truck. I would like to monitor Police radio for security purposes in my area. I would also be interested in hearing Airport transmissions for hobby reasons; either ATL or PDK. If a nut is loose in my neighborhood, I'd like to know. If I hear sirens, I would like to know what it is for.
Do I need to have a radio programmed for my area or can I just scan or can I program the freq's. I'm interested in manually. I don't want to spend $500 on a radio yet. Can anyone guide me?
