Yea.. I think its the location. Was getting some reception then moved the antenna to a different spot on the roof and much better but not 100 percent. Need to order some more lmr 400 to get up about 10 more feet then I should be good. I think bad cell reception equals good scanning.

Just curious if anyone has stumbled upon some creative means of improving mobile reception within the city. I've played around with the 996XT P25 settings and have only minimally improved things. Someone a few months ago had suggested a "diversity reception" approach - with use of more than one vehicle antenna tied into the radio....has anyone actually given this a shot in Balt? It really is amazing how much a slight location change can impact reception of this new system.

Sorry to hear all the problems everyone is having. I programmed (2) RS 106's using the ARC500 software. Programmed both north and south into 1 scan list without any adjustments to the radios. I seem to be hearing everything fine. I did, however, take a short ride across Joppa Rd. from Perring Pkwy. to Loch Raven Blvd. and some of the transmissions did get choppy in a few places. I live in the Carney, Cub Hill, Parkville area and am using the RS 800mhz antenna on both radios. Travelling to Hanover PA tomorrow and will see how they work then.

I wish I could report something to you all.

I've got a Pro-96 and a Pro-106 and although I've been in this hobbie for more than 40 years... I STILL can't figure out how to program either of my scanners for these new P25 systems.

If anyone woul;d care to share the actual .p96 or p.106 scan lists/files for the County, or whatever they have in their scanners (maybe even Baltimore City) it would sure be appreciated.

Regards, Tim

I too don't know how to program my Pro96 scanner so that it will once again pick up the P-25 systems.
I haven't been able to listen to my scanner for almost 2 years.
I am disabled and my best entertainment everyday was listening to the southern districts police calls.
I think that my only hope of ever being able to listen to them again, is to send my scanner off to Scanner Masters and pay them to program, and upgrade, or what ever my scanner needs done to it.
It has taken me all this time to be able to save up the monery to pay for this.
I figure that it's better to pay another $150 and be able to use my scanner as it was intended, or else I'll just have myself a $500 paper weight.
Is there anybody out there who has a better idea of what I can do to keep from having to pay this fee?
I'd be willing to pay someone local who has the means, knowledge and what ever else it takes to upgrade this scanner for me (4434728985)

I could go wandering over to Southern and try to sort it out one of these days. I'm a GRE junkie, but RS tends to copy a lot of GRE's system setup.

If you don't get it sorted out, PM me...I need to update my .P96 file anyway....

Got the Baltimore City P25 system put into freescan for a visit this week to baltimore - hopefully it will work. I grouped the pd by the 9 regions for the most part. Is there a logical way to group Fire/Med by area, battalion, or some other groupings? Thanks,

How you group things is really up to you. There's no one 'best' way to do it.

Don't be too surprised if your Uniden isn't up to the task of trunking this system. Like the County system, it's using a modulation scheme that is really hard for consumer grade scanners to handle - it's very dependent on exactly where you happen to be in the City. I'd read this thread in its entirety so you know what you're getting into....Mike

Thanks, it looks like it may be difficult to impossible to read the p-25 system. Any good conventional frequencies worth adding in the downtown area that aren't in the database?

Or any other monitorable systems worth listening to?

MTA can be kinda fun, they've got some serious attitude and they're analog UHF-low.

Conventional wise, only PSA you'll find in the area is MdTA Port and MdTA McHenry.

Kayleesdad...As long as you're in the city you may not have too many problems, but you may also want to program 154.415. The city FD patches the dispatch thru this VHF freq. Hope this helps.

damorg5623,

Please stop posting to this thread. I'm sorry but your issue is off-topic. If you need help with programming your scanner for a specific system or agency please create your own thread in this forum. Do not "Reply" to an existing thread. If you need help with general use or programming of the scanner please create a thread in the RadioShack forum. If none of the above apply then create a thread in General Scanning.

If you are having trouble with using the scanner after getting it back from ScannerMaster I would recommend calling them.

Reception is pretty good around the inner harbor with the par800 doing a little better than the xt. As with other p25 systems I'm sure a little distance will make it unreadable.

I wonder if anyone can give me advice on purchasing a scanner for Baltimore County Police/Fire/EMS, etc.? I currently have a trunking 900 scanner from Radio Shack and of course I can't receive any of the calls. Since my son is a Balto. Co. Police officer, I like to monitor his status and that of the area I live in. I was considering the HomePatrol or the Uniden Handheld. Also, I spend a lot of time in Ocean City, so I'd like to take my scanner with me to OC.

I'd appreciate any advice you might be able to offer.

I think his question was regarding what specific "setting tweaks" were adjusted to optimize reception and decoding of the Baltimore System, not what was done to make the scanner listen to the new system.
So ll I Need To Do Is Leave Everything the same On the 106 as say, 6 Months Ago, But Change the system To 25manual?!?
