That comment ("while you can") has an ominous sound to it. You know something about the new system, not yet funded, not yet spec'd out, that has that ring to it? Just wondering ...

Yes, it starts with an E and ends with a N.

Mayor is asking for 200 new patrol units, 100-200 new officers and a new radio system? A $60 million dollar bond will be hard to sell.

I've seen recently where a city bought a new radio system by using a loan from a bank. Therefore they didn't need to come up with the money up front. And, the EDACS system is end of life and is a ticking time bomb. Imagine the issue the Mayor will have if the system fails during a critical incident.

In new mexico grants, monies are no question for anyone looking for them in public safety. With the Governor having close ties to public safety anything involving safety it's never a no.

Most entities within new mexico can and some do pull 90 percent of public work funding into law enforcement end. It is allowed since they consider law enforcement within it believe it or not in NM.

The money will be found. A lot times for some places, public works pays for the new systems, patrol cars, or other equipment with added funds found elsewhere.

You would be surprised how the money isn't there one day and next day the account seemed to always been plentiful. New Mexico may be behind in times but the people behind the desks pick and choose what to address when they feel like it.

They have a lot of old patrol units there which do need to be replaced. As for the officers part I'm told they will be lowering requirements. This part is unfortunate as we have seen across state the small back door places what kind of people get in lowering the bar. It is a disaster down south with questionable persons in law enforcement, fire and dispatches since requirements would be lowered.

Good site you made btw.

Encrypted NXDN??

Lol while that would be a cheaper cost effective option they will be Harris or Motorola. With budgets way they are Harris most likely sell the ease of transition to a p25 phase 2 system which a lot EDACS users migrate too snd Harris winning the bid. They throw stipulations in the bids so the vendors, contractors who are smaller get thrown out before it gets strated thst couldn't afford to touch it or dont have something in wording they'd have to sub contract out. Seen this game played all over the state to get a particular contractor or vendor in.

Just a thought it might be good to add in there in the faq, and somewhere on main page, just my opinion that in no way are you affiliated with the entities. Just looking at it in a legal perspective when logos are used and public point of information is created.

Some forget the reasons why BCSO, Alb chose EDACS with esk pro voice at one time. Back then it was a main selling point and what was wanted. Those involved with it are still around. This could give you the idea of where things would go.

To top that off Lea county, mainly Hobbs, and city of Las Cruces have always got a lot of service and hardware from same vendor albuquerque has. There's reasons there and other things but many I'm sure can recall seeing a dozen or so at time brand new Las Cruces patrol cars heading up 25 north then week later back down. Same for Hobbs you would see them in a small fleet heading up north to get installs initially done and local techs would maintain it.

Hobbs, Lea actually was able to jump ahead of what Bernalillo wanted to do thanks to the oil industry helping in some form.

Yes, encryption.

I figured that after all. Typical of them privacy concerned scrardies that they are & not wanting to be heard or monitored on public safety scanners by us publicly aware listeners & montorors who like to be in the knowing when something bad is happening or taking place around us or our homes!!

Bernalillo County has always wanted to be private & unheard with their radio communications which is why they first went to using EDACS ProVoice radios & communications some years ago. That's because back then, it was said that there was no scanners or receivers on the market that could pickup or decode EDACS ProVoice Communications & that there never would be. LOL for that now to this day & age!

Uniden made that a total myth & a failure to & for Bernalillo County with their EDACS ProVoice Radio Communications a few years ago on their BCD*36HP line of scanners by creating that wonderful firmware update which finally allowed us to purchase a EDACS ProVoice upgrade key for their latest released scanners. Thus, making EDACS ProVoice radio communications truely able & capable of being monitored & picked up after all on the Uniden BCD*36HP line of Uniden scanners as well as the Uniden BCD996P2 Scanner now too... I guess Bernalillo County figures that they better do it the right way this time around for their privacy concerns & go to 100% encrypted radio communications that cannot & will not ever be able to be monitored or heard by anybody except themselves & maybe the News Stations for their news coverage needs.

Back in February Las Cruces rebanded down 15 Mhz and I did find one Pro Voice talk ground. It sounds better than P25 Phase I from Fort Bliss or El Paso in my opinion.

Not cause a debate which can be done in tavern but Bernalillo was aware of the very few lpe200 folks out there then and now. So it has nothing to do with uniden/whistler firmware.

The main reason they went esk pro voice was it was un monitorable by all, then most and the gang issues existing back then and more so now to robbery, car jackings, home b&e, theft of packages etc. Albuquerque, Hobbs, couple other small entities it has gotten really bad last few years with issues.

Believe it or not, not every thugee is as stupid as most like to think, specially in organized type crime which occurs I'm some parts of NM. They knew and know this. It's possible they may (underline ten times) leave dispatch open for other agency purposes however it'll be moot when Rio Rancho switches and it can be patched anyway and could now on limited basis if they wanted with one end being clear but future systems solve that issue along with most respecting the other agencies security in place.

With SP utilizing 700mhz equipment there, the newer models were ordered which are stored away while utilizing phase 1 capable equipment which was already around.

They are the guinea pig for the state setup to come which interop won't be issue once fully complete. With regional dispatch centers popping up more in state and common interop used or inner agency interops not listed mobile to mobile which everyone has it isn't a issue per say or hasn't been. Regional dispatch centers have gotten pretty good in larger high volume entities around NM with sending out the call or information same time for multiple entities on different bands, setups. Once a true interop region system is in place it will make their job easier and easier for the users.

With first net being built out, and state infrastructure over the mdt systems offered lately it is hard to not be in the know in your region or area if part of it. You'll know when you see new laptops in the cars, and nice black shark fins on the roof. Typically the fins come first for smaller entities then once money is there the laptops and mou to costs for access to the state systems offered not just ncic.

All in all more crime and smarter criminals utilizing means to be a step ahead. There is no conspiracy with it. It's the unfortunate reality and solving issues which costs a entity more if left untouched.
