My question now too? Will the BCFD's up here in the East Mountains remain in the clear & unencrypted like what I am hearing & reading in this Thread for the APD dispatch channels? This as for, I'm always very concerned about Wildfires on or near the Sandia Mountains when I hear or see BCFD Trucks going up on the Sandia Mountains with Lights & Sirens running as for I live right next to the Cibola NFS Boundaries where High Fire Danger is always a risk & very critical. Especially in the hot dry Summer Months of every Year.

I myself am not so much about hearing & listening to the Police Departments & their Radio Traffic like many others here. I am more concerned & into Monitoring the Bernalillo Fire Departments up here in the East Mountains such as Fire Station #46 for in case of Wildland/Forest Fires that I do not want to not be able to monitor & listen to on my own Digital Public Safety Scanner.

Great job Mr. Gatchell. This information is much appreciated. As Mrs. Jones is my City Councilor, I'm very glad that she is the one that responded.

Maybe Mr. AbqScan can answer the simulcast question. As of right now, I get equally great reception from both Sandia Crest and West Side towers, very clear and no distortion at all.

Mr Gatchell, a big thank you to you as well. That is good that someone is contacting our elected officials to voice concerns and enlighten them on the subject as most probably aren’t aware of how any of it works.

I was raised in the east mountains, I share your concern. I could not think of a good reason why they would encrypt the dispatch fire channels. But I will follow up.

You wouldn’t think they would encrypt any of the Fire dispatch or Fire Tac channels in the area. No reason for it. Unlike KAFD dispatch.

I am curious about NM EMA (aka: Emergency Mgmt/disaster) TG’s or frequencies being used in Bernalillo, County. Assuming these agencies will also be on the new Phase 2 system.

I have no idea what they are using now if anything? No EMA traffic in Abq that I have heard anyway.

Noticed allot of cities and states around the country are using VHF frequency’s for this because of range but also have 700/800 capability.

EMA and NM Homeland Security Fusion Center based in Santa Fe according to the website. Bernalillo County also has one apparently so they may be on this new system as well.

My Grandfather was an assistant Fire Chief back in the 1950's at KAFD. Before that he was with the AFD for many years. Just listening to the channel brings back memories. Wish KAFD was in the clear.

That’s pretty neat! Maybe KAFD will have a mutual aid patch channel on the new system for when AFD responds to the airport. Can only dream. Lol!

At this time, only NMSP is using Phase 1, almost all testing is in phase 2.

Interesting to hear that the NM State Police are still using just the P25 Phase 1 as for I was not aware of that. Now my question to that is, what type of P25 Phase 1? Mot 800MHz Standard (Type 1), Mot 800 MHz Splinter (Type 1) or the hardest to program being the Mot Custom/Reband Type 1? I really only care & want to still listen to the & hear the NMSP in the Winter just for hearing & monitoring how the State Road Conditions are by how many calls they are responding to & where due to Icy Roads & Weather Conditions.

It is in my opinion highly unlikely that the primary dispatch talkgroups for any of the major agencies will be encrypted, contrary to what many fearmongers who post here will tell you. The cost and logistics of doing that are extreme. And it would make zero sense for fire/rescue, so I wouldn't even waste any time worrying about that.

I think Motorola sales people pitch the whole security thing pretty heavy. One of the major selling points and they tend to go over board when announcing the details. But you also need to remember that ProVoice wasn’t monitor-able either not very long ago. I am sure that was one of the big selling points as well at the time. I don’t think people are fear mongering. Just look around at other nearby cities and states. Lots of Phase 2 systems going completely dark. They are legitimate concerns that people have in my opinion.

Corwin, Mot 800MHz Standard (Type 1), Mot 800 MHz Splinter (Type 1) or the hardest to program being the Mot Custom/Reband Type 1? is not P25 Phase 1. P25 is just that, P25. Just select P25 Trunk on your 536 or P25 Standard Trunk on your 996 and your scanner will do the rest.

Hmm, well good to know that now. Thanks abqscan for the Teaching & awareness on my misunderstanding of P25 Types.

Still in the testing phase. Heard AFR testing reception up in Rio at the casino last week. Techs were testing talkgroups in blocks on Friday. I imagine it's just a matter of getting delivery of the new radios.

The cheapest options for P25 phase 2 radios would be unidens 325p2 and 996p2. I'm not experiencing any issues with simulcast at this time, even with the new tower locations.

So this system is online with testing going on, but it isn't in the RRDB so that people have the necesssary information to program their scanner? Is that right?

The last I heard is there will be a large simulcast system that covers the county and they city.
Heard last night that the new ABQ/Bernalillo system is currently only running on 3 towers of which are already listed. They have YET to turn on 8 more towers that are located within city limits.
