theres still no budget

so dont expect any chppers work to be going on
while chp is hot and heavy to get it done - ocio doesnt have travel or any other kind of money

I saw a story about the budget here is a little of it

Just Thursday, they had to close down the restrooms at Carmel River State Park because of an unpaid water bill, which was resolved Friday.

I know this isn't about the cutover, but this is the reason why the cutovers are not happing like said avtarsingh

Northern Division freq Applications showing up in FCC Database

Over the past couple weeks, applications for CHP's new Northern Division frequencies have started to appear in the FCC's Applications database, but as of yet all are still in the "pending" status. As most of the lists have shown them, they're being listed as
  • 45.22 / 42.68 replacing the old Green (42.56/42.24) in Humboldt / Del Norte
  • 45.14 / 42.64 replacing the old Red (42.44/42.28) in Shasta/Trinity/Tehama
  • 45.42 / 42.78 replacing the old Purple (42.40/42.16) in Siskiyou
  • 44.92 / 42.52 replacing the old White (42.56/42.72) in Lake/Mendocino
    and
  • 44.98 / 42.56 replacing the old Blue (42.34/42.18) for Northern Division

I haven't seen anything come through yet to replace Amber-2 in Modoc/Plumas.

Even if all the paperwork miraculously fell together quickly (including the green paper$), I don't foresee them getting many of the high-elevation Northern Div radio sites changed over before the snow melts next Spring.

I'm busy doing the last of the outdoor chores before winter sets in, which may happen on Sunday. Once that happens I will be able to sit inside and watch more closely. I've had the new frequencies programmed for quite some time. The last time you posted a schedule it looked like the Inland Division was further down the line so this surprises me.

It may be a while before the snowcats are needed on the north end of the Bishop dispatch area. The storm on Sunday is going to happen but the chances of snow accumulation are diminishing. The site that should be done first is Sweetwater as the access requires 4WD. Perhaps Silver should be next or maybe first as it is at 10,0000 feet.

since there's been no feedback yet.....Wouldn't Mojave have moved to the new channel also?

If so, I'll try to get someone in the area to drive up there and see.

From what I've heard, Bishop and Barstow's new radios are being installed on their old existing frequencies, due to inability to get FCC licenses they wanted and interference issues.

There haven't been any changes on the Gold up here yet. I did quite a bit of listening in the last week while it was snowing. Caltrans has changed to a rebanded frequency on one electronic site of the four I can hear from my home.

I am hearing that the FCC is taking up to 8 weeks to process an application these days
That's about right for CHP's Northern Division frequencies. Modification apps went in during late September and early October for just about all of their sites, but as of today fewer than half have been granted.

For Ukiah they're doing OK, with White (44.92) and Northern Blue (44.98) now licensed at Cahto, Laughlin Ridge, Spanish Mtn, Cold Springs Lookout, Point Arena and Seigler Mtn.

Humboldt's Green (45.22) only at Arcata and Crescent City offices, and Red Mtn, Gasquet, Camp 6 and Little River Scales, but Horse, Pierce and Pratt are still pending as is the Humboldt Dispatch Center itself.

Redding Red (45.14) has gotten Cottonwood Scales (both directions), Burney office, and Colby Mtn, but not Horse, Redding, Red Bluff or Weaverville Offices or RDCC yet.

Yreka Purple (45.42) has only gotten Hamaker Mtn, Oregon so far, it looks like.

From the Applications page I haven't seen any indication that Amber (42.08) will be changing (to 45.10) as soon as the other Northern dispatch freqs.

I may have missed a few sites, but that's about the pace... and most of the grants that have come through have been in just the last two weeks.

Lots of down time on CHP green around Monterey in recent days too. Routine calls are heard on the blue channel during these temporary blackouts...

CHP Northern Div licenses 97% finished (36 out of 37)

According to the FCC database, the CHP Northern Division's radio licenses have finally been modified for the CHPERS configuration. All except one, at the Inspection Station on s/b I-5 near Mt Shasta, which has been pending about 7 weeks, so it should be out shortly. The FCC's been taking about two months lately.

Here are the callsigns and locations for all the modified licenses, and I can't think of any TX sites that are missing... anyone?

WNUR786 - Sheepy Ridge & Mt Hamaker, OR (again?)
WPGB992 - Eddy Gulch

The most common frequency list floating around hints that Susanville Dispatch may move off Amber2 (42.08/42.76m) and go to "Amber 2A" (45.10/42.62m), but *none* of Susanville's dozen or so sites' licenses have any modification applications in the hopper, so maybe they're staying put.

Also, the list shows Northern Division getting a Gray pair and a Brown pair, which are identical to Valley Division's new Gray (Truckee - 45.60/42.88m) and Brown (Chico - 44.70/42.40m). Kind of odd, except that those two areas border Northern Division, partially in some pretty rugged terrain. We'll just have to see.

Here are two little items I just found that suggest the new stuff isn't quite ready to go online just yet, but with a project this size, and budget crunches, things like this are to be expected:

helpful programming tip of the day

dont delete your old chp freqs from your scan list

after the chppers has been completely done - they are going to back through and reprogram the whole state back to the original old freqs

the new stuff doesnt work and isnt working so its all going back to the old freqs

and you wonder why calif is broke ?

good job

well its due to using new crappy semi directional gain antennas - they dont have the coverage they did

so going back to the old freqs still wont solve it nobody seems to be interested in listening to reason

part of it was due to the mobile antennas evidently the ONLY people who didnt know low band wont cover 6 mhz were the people making the decisions

the new equipment isnt working right either and the old ge rangers are getting put back into the cars

humm when you spend 47,000 PER CAR you think you would get a little bit better of a working system
maybe i need to make this my signature --
chp - buy a light / siren controller - buy a kenwood tk-690 buy a uniden 996xt buy new pyramid avr and be DONE 5k max per car

save 42,000 per car jerry jerry jerry jerrry jerry

heres to hoping jerry will help reduce some of this wasteful obscene spending
(im not gonna hold my breath tho )
