Does anyone know a good place to buy individual crystals for old scanners? I posted here a while ago saying I had two Bearcat III scanners in the shack given to me by a friend. They still work well. I'd love to get some crystals for some local frequencies since currently it has some great Ann Arbor crystals in it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can try Bomar Crystal Company, or International Crystal Manufacturing Company, Inc., which makes better quality crystals:

Bomar: http://www.bomarcrystal.com/

International: http://www.icmfg.com/

I have ordered from both and have found no problems, but several people that I know who have purchased crystals from the latter of the two, report no drifting over several years, unlike the former.

If you have a Radio Shack store near you you may be able to get them there. You would have to order them as I don't believe they stock them. You would, of course, have to be able to give them the frequencies.
I have gotten them there in the past for my mother's RCA crystal scanner. What an antique that is, but it still works just fine.

Then there is eBay... I just saw a lot of 1,000 crystals go for not too bad a price.

I have a whole bunch of old Regency scanner crystals sitting in a large bowl. I can't believe that I use to spend $5.00 a pop for them, and now Radio shack wants something like $10+ for each crystal. :(
