New Denver TG's

Anyone been able to spend any time listening to some of the new TG's on the Denver Pub Safety system? I've noticed a lot of 12-xxx TG's lately. Namely, 12-004, 005, and 006 (1540-1542) . Often, the 12-004 will be patched to 06-037 (0799) (another new one). Also, 06-030 (0792) is another new one that remains unlisted in the database. Maybe related, but I haven't seen the early morning patches of 00-004, etc lately.

Off topic, it was good to see everyone at the meeting Saturday. Hope to be able to stop in to future ones.

792 is Fire 8, which is patched to DIA DFD 1.

799 is the FERN convetional patch.

These are not new. When an EDACS TG is patched to another one, they assign what's called a System Assigned ID or SAID. It sounds like they are using a different pool of SAIDs. Denver also does the same thing for conventional patches. They don't need to, but this is how they chose to do it.

I noticed while looking at the programing of my 780XLT that I did have 06-037 (799) tagged as FERN Patch. I guess after using the PRO-96 which doesn't display patches, I am seeing what were "new" talkgroups to me showing up after using the 396 for a few weeks now. I'd still like to figure out what the 12-series patches are linked to, however. It doesn't seem like they are taking the place of the older 00-004, 00-005, etc patches which seem to have disappeared as far as I can tell.

On a side note, just curious why some prefer DEC format when dealing with EDACS talkgroups? It seems to make a lot more sense to use the AFS format, especially when conversing about them. What's the appeal with DEC?

Still more new TG's. Last night 06-121 (865) patched to 12-012 (1546). Also, sounds like 12-010 (1544) is the new ID for one of the district patches Denver uses in the off-hours. Didn't have time to figure out which districts were patched before I got to work. 12-007 (1541) was also caught last night as well. So far, it's been a combination of little voice traffic and little time to actively monitor the new TG's so nothing has yet been confirmed. If anyone has a Uniden model where they can do an AFS search (ie only 12-xxx TG's as on the 245 i believe) that might be helpful.

The patch IDs are just sequential from a given starting point so you can't rely on any given patch ID always being associated with certain TGs. The 15XX theme is currently across all three major Denver systems. Don't expect them to stay like this however, they have been changing rather often, varying from 001 to 269 to 1538 to 2047 in recent months.

792 - "DIST-8" Patch to DIA
799 - "FERN" Patch to FERN
865 - "AURORA" Currently a Patch to AFD TAC-3

Decimal is the way the field radios are programmed.

Uniden's AFS format is half assed in they went with 8 TG's per fleet vs 16 which is what is really used. Yeah a slight technicality for accuracy freaks. Uniden claimed lack of alpha display back in the BC245XLT days.

However using a partial AFS entry in a scan list or TG search i.e. 04-08 will receive TG's 04-080 through 04-087. Or 04- will yield all TG's in the Agency 4 block.

Other than using FM vs NFM for EDACS 9600 systems Uniden scanners beat the GRE Radioshack scanners when it comes to flexability on EDACS systems. (i.call's, LID scan, TG patch tracking, emergency declaration alerts, narrowband 4800 EDACS systems (typically 900 MHz), SCAT sites.)
