let me start by saying i've owned a 396 for almost 1 year new,,,i found it very hard to use and the owners manual doesn't give very much info....i was playing with my scanner today and i discovered if your press the function button then push down the volume button twice ,,,the display changes ....what do theses new letters and numbers mean....

ERR:_ _ _ 0 AUTO

T 1.38 1.59 1.77...( these values change during some transmissions )

Interesting. Looks like some sort of diagnostic mode.

This is the scanner auto mode on digital decode. It is in the manual near the back.
