Last night while driving around, I heard DPS on TG 541, possibly involving an oversized load escort, (but I'm not positive about that), on I-8 near Gila Bend. I think I also heard a trooper mention SR-85 in Buckeye. (I'm assuming this was off the South Mtn site, since I was on the South Mtn and San Tan 202 at the time.)

The last time Trump visited the border near Yuma, I heard TG 540 active with related comms.

Since TG 542 is District 4's main TG on AZWINS, I'm guessing that 540 and 541 are tactical TG's for District 4.

If others could listen for both of those TG's, maybe we can get them confirmed and entered into the DB, depending on how active they really are.

I have all known TG's for AZWINS programmed in and always run the SDS in search mode looking for unknowns. I'll be on the lookout for those.

I use Unication mostly for DPS. It doesn't have a search mode like SDS does. Where your located, is a good spot hear escorts down freeway. Add CHP 42MHz. They have been in AZ on many occasions. It's usually a pair of CHP of vehicles.

I am in Pinal County not even close to the CA border. Never have seen a CHP vehicle out this way, as for low band VHF I can't hear anything other that various inference.

I run my GRE PSR-500 with a wildcard on AZWINS full time, so I catch both clear and encrypted TG's. I only run my SDS-100 in TG search mode on certain occasions.

On a separate note, TG 1015 keeps popping up on Thompson Peak. Must be encrypted as it only shows up for a second and then gone as the scanner resumes its search. 1015 would be in order with CI channels if they kept that in order.

There are many encrypted talkgroups associated with DPS. I have logged these encrypted talkgroups from the South Mountain site with DPS radio IDs.

Initial Grant Link

On September 30, 2007, the Departments of Commerce and Homeland Security announced the successful award of nearly $1 billion in grant funding to all 56 States and Territories to enhance interoperability nationwide. These awards represent the largest single infusion of Federal funding ever provided for State, Territory, and local agencies to implement communications solutions. The graphic below illustrates the use of funds by the 51 States and Territories reviewed for this report.

Arizona was given 17 Million. You can see each state grant was different.

For all the naysayers that a trunked system won't come to my area. DHS money can make almost everything work 🤑

Another addition to AZWINS is the bridge into the public safety system in Mexico. Mexico Bridge to systems into Texas. Canada / N states has their own cross country network. Some are conventional repeater & other link to DMR/NXDN/P25 systems etc.

Interesting. Any idea which specific frequency(ies)? I'm guessing they're operating on their respective car to car in simplex, no?

Try Blue. 42mhz will give them best simplex range.

Now that CHP cars are mini command centers, they could be anywhere.
There was a post on here a long while back about someone seeing them in Phoenix.

I have a comment and a question.
Probably heading over to Bikini Beans.
My husband called me from town asking if I needed him to bring me home anything, I said I would love a coffee, he brought me home a cup from Bikini Beans :) he said he really didn't know it was one of those places til he was already in the drive thru. He asked if I minded Heck No, I was so needing a coffee why waste time to drive around looking for another place, while I sit at home coffee-less waiting. It was really good coffee, too. OK now my Question: " I run my GRE PSR-500 with a wildcard on AZWINS full time, so I catch both clear and encrypted TG's " can only the GRE capable of receiving in the clear ENC that have a wildcard channel? like for Uniden the "i0"- would I theoretically be capable of hearing them in the clear too?

I run the wildcard on AZWINS to catch both clear and encrypted TG's. I do this mainly to find new clear TG's, and to see what encrypted TG's there are. Or to know if/when encryption gets turned on on a TG that has traditionally been in the clear.

And just to clarify, when I hear an encrypted TG, I hear the encryption noise, not an unencrypted transmission. Uniden scanners mute the encryption noise, and then skips over the TG, although there have been suggestions made in the past to implement a menu feature to allow the encryption noise through to the speaker for those of us who want to hear it.

Using the wildcard, I've found that quite a few TG's from outside Maricopa County can be heard on the AZWIN sites around Phoenix. There are many TG's from Yuma County and La Paz County that will occasionally pop up on the South Mtn and/or White Tanks sites, most of which are encrypted, either fully or partially. I've also heard DPS D2, D4, D6, D8, D9, and D12. I see D11 is now listed in the RRDB, but I have yet to catch it on any Phoenix area site.

I finally caught a D11 transmission or two this afternoon. They're not every active, however.

Some encrypted TG's I've caught over time are 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004. (I haven't caught 2002 yet.) I'm really curious as to who they are used by, given that the highest known TG's are ADOT's 1100-series.

Other un-identified encrypted TG's that I've caught are:

244
302
326
352

I have heard D11 quite a bit lately, a lot of normal traffic chatter (running plates, names, etc) and caught a fatal accident on 260 west of Heber this afternoon. Mostly on South Mtn but also a few other sites as well. Location plays a big part of what you are able to hear though.

I get D11 all the time as well but on UHF instead. Late at night, D3 is patched in. Interesting to hear the east end of I-40 from down here in the valley. I'm in the southeast end of STV, so have a clear shot to the mountains. I also hear D8, likely from Mt Lemmon. Something like 75 miles, clear strong signal. Not bad.
