just out of curiosity-saw this on another post...but could hunters who use marine band radios on land, using the new DSC radios....be tracked by the GPS position without using the distress feature?

I don't think so. These things are used by many local businesses here in Arizona, and have been for years. And yeah, I realize that it is piracy, I'm just saying it is common, so they must not be trackable.

Only if the Emerg button is pressed while on 156.525, CH70.

No other channels will transmit the DSC/FSK messages, plus on some models the DSC message can be set to disable the GPS message.
