Hello friends.

I've been spending some time railfanning these last few weeks on CSX's B&A line.

I usually keep two radios on me. The Motorola HT1000 for road channel monitoring, and a Uniden SR30C.

I've noticed over the last couple of months, some EOT or head end devices do not transmit, while others will chirp back and forth for 3 or 4 minutes before I see headlights.

Do some devices transmit on different frequencies? I locked my scanner on 452.9375 and heard nothing, when there was a marker present.

Thanks.

452.9375 (head end) and 457.9375 (rear end) are the standard frequencies. That’s all I’ve ever heard.

Only exception would be if there’s an unmanned helper on the tail end, in which case the data would be on the DPU frequencies.

Also a train that is parked in a yard or siding may not be transmitting.
