New FCC/NEXTEL rebanding question

I know that due to the NEXTEL and FCC arrangment rebanding will be uccuring over the next 2 years and that MA was suppose to start on the 27 of June but here we are and the MSP and other 800MHz Trunk users are still in place and still operating. This was suppose to have stopped scanner users from listening to these systems. So can someone tell me when this will be affecting my listening of the MSP or if it really will please send reply to my e-mail rbryant6781@comcast.net

The actual rebanding will probably not start until next year. The June 27 date was for the start of discussions on how the rebanding is going to be accomplished without disrupting public safety operations. Some people are saying that it could be as long as two years from now before the actual rebanding starts.

This is going to be a complex operation, including reprogramming thousands of mobile and portable radios, reprogramming and in some cases replacing base station equipment.

Depending on what type of scanner you have, you will either have to reflash the firmware or, as is more likely, replace it with a new scanner. So far only a few of the newer Uniden scanners look like they will be able to be updated when this happens. No word yet from Radio Shack/GRE.
