The majority of foreign TETRA systems use this exact frequency range. The federal government is planning on moving to this area for future wide-area trunking systems. Likewise, a similar nationwide trunking system is currently undergoing beta testing in Washington, which is part of the JWIN system, but will operate in the VHF-High band area.
The JWIN TRS, will be fully Project 25 compliant, and use the 9600 baud, ASTRO 6.3 platform. The system roll-out should begin in early 2005 and hopefully be completed by the end of the year, or sooner if funding is approved for it's completion. However, it's unknown at this time how this system will interface with currently existing wide-area public safety networked systems at the state level.
