• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I think I am on 2.03.

Does anyone know if when sending a radio in for repair, they automatically update the firmware to the latest? I have a G5 on the way to Unication for repair and am curious.

I don't know their common practice but I sent a G4 in for the toggle in going bad and when I got it back it still had 1.35 on it and they were up to 2.02 then for pagers of that vintage. Maybe someone else can comment. This has been a year or so ago.

Sounds good. I imagine they don't want to introduce potential new issues and leave up to the end-user to update.

I can't say that I'm terribly impressed with PPS V0.4.0.46. The new version will not log in to the RR database. My prior version V0.4.0.41 logs in just fine.

I upgraded my G4 yesterday.

I just had a weird issue where my G4 would no longer connect to my bluetooth speaker mic. I tried today to connect my speaker mic for the first time after the upgrade. Doing a search for bluetooth devices, my G4 wouldn't find it.

I had to remove all the stored bluetooth profiles, then search for the speaker mic. After the G4 found it during the search, I was able to connect my speaker mic to my G4 as normal.

It did it to me again.

I was listening to my G4 with a speaker mic and I heard the sound of my bluetooth speaker mic powering off (it will power off if its not connected to anything.) I tried to reconnect it to my G4. No luck. I tried to search for the speaker mic, and it couldn't be found. Multiple searches could not find it.

When I got home, I powered off the G4, powered it back on, and turned off bluetooth under Bluetooth Settings. Then, I rebooted my G4 and turned bluetooth back on. When I turned on "earphone" under Bluetooth Settings, and then powered up my speaker mic, my speaker mic connected just like normal.

I haven't had any problems with this same bluetooth speaker mic in the 14 months I've owned my G4. Since I upgraded the firmware, its lost connection and unable to reconnect twice to the same bluetooth speaker mic. I'm not sure what has changed in the bluetooth part of the firmware, but something is causing it to lose connection and be unable to reconnect.

Edit: The trunked site I was listening to was fairly quiet at the time. No transmissions in at least 10 minutes.

1) I need to update my personal G5 with a few new conventional VHF channels and modify a trunking list I have saved. Version 1.31-11262020. Should I upgrade to the newest version or not? Do I need to delete my current version first?

2) Will it override or delete my current saved favorites list?

3) Can't remember my password. I believe I left it at the "factory" level "admin" and password several zeros, but nothing is working yet. Suggestions?

The new FW is 2xx with PPS 4XX.. I understand that under the new process, your CP needs to be rebult. The older and updated FW is 1.35 which will accept your current CP.

I forgot about this post and wanted to report for other's reference that my G5 was returned from repair with the same V2.03 firmware that was originally on my pager when I sent it in.

I'm glad they leave it up to the user which version they want to run.

When I had to send my G4 back in just days before I went out of warranty, it had 1.35 on it still and when I got it back it still had 1.35 on it. I ended up selling that pager since I had 2 G5's already and before I sold it I did go ahead and update it at the request of the buyer to 2.02 I think it was at that time (about 8 months or so ago). I couldn't tell they did anything other than replace the center toggle.

This is an update to the popping sounds I was getting at the end of some transmissions on my g4 while using it in the charger/amplifier after the firmware update. I did not realize I had an older version of the PPS. I updated it to the newest version and manually programmed it. After writing it to the pager the popping sounds are gone.

When I sent mine in last November it was returned updated. I had to roll the firmware back to 1.35.

Its currently back at Unication for a button issue that they cant repair and I'm waiting for a replacement but they have been back ordered for the past month and a half. I'm sure when I eventually get the replacement it will be the latest firmware.
