Greetings! I wanted to let everyone know that there are new frequencies in New England.

Berkshire and Eastern (Ex Pan Am District 3)

Road 161.250

Dispatcher 160.980

East Deerfield Yard is still the same 161.400

I believe they have done away with the duplex frequency setup, and are now using a CSX radio system with wayside transmitters.

On the ex district 1 from Ayer to The NH state line, 161.160 is the road channel and 161.520 is the dispatchers channel.

if anybody has any additional information, feel free to post below.

To clarify, you're saying this applies to the Berkshire & Eastern from Ayer to Mechanicsville, correct? I ask cause the Dispatcher frequency was also submitted as part of the new communications plan for CSXT EA Dispatcher (Former District 2). Or does it apply to both?

Yes from Mechanicville to Ayer, for the 161.250 and 160.980 frequencies.

EA dispatcher 160.980
EA road 160.620
EB dispatcher 161.520
EB road 161.160
B&E dispatcher 160.980
B&E road 161.250

EA is the old District 1, EB was District 2, and B&E was District 3. In Massachusetts, EA controls the Worcester Subdivision from Worcester to Ayer.

I am working on the RadioReference DB updates on this in NY and coordinating with the DB Admin for New England. I am working with an offical souce to confirm details. Situation is complicated since no record of B&E FCC licenses for the frequencies involved so no info on base station locations, etc..

The information above appears correct but I need to sort out all the CSX /B&E changes with my official source before I make any changes.

It appears that all B&E in New York State is now 161.250 Road and 160.980 Dispatcher so I made those changes. I am working to confirm District 1 and 2 changes vs present listings and put it in a submission for Massachusetts for that Admin to work. It may affect both CSX and B&E listings.

Yes it is complicated.
The lines that B&E operates are owned by Pan Am Southern, a 50/50 CSX/Norfolk Southern joint venture. CSX owns the licenses for the frequencies so they will fall under CSX name. All B&E does is run the operations. Searching 160.98 and 161.25 all counties in Mass. gives you all info.

I have it all sorted out now but we have some major work to do on the RRDB for the New England states to replace Pan AM Southern listings and update the frequencies. I just sent a summary of the changes to the RRDB Admin for the area to move listings to CSX or B&E as appropriate for the territory with the current frequencies. My changes for NY were easy since it is all District 3 B&E. I also added the MOW channel which had not been listed previously.

Gets even more fun when you dig cause many of those radio licenses are still issued to Boston & Maine Corporation, who also still owns all the land. Gotta love the hail of paper that is railroad ownership...
