OK, I had this FT-65R for 5 minutes, great first impression. Solid. Snapped the battery on, no problem.

5 mins later I want to read the inside label. Slide the battery switch over to release the battery and the confounded thing absolutely will not slide off.
Great. Haven't even used it yet. I guess it has to go back.

Has anyone else had trouble getting the battery off? I've owned lots of HT's and never seen anything like this.

Thanks

Never had a problem with mine and I have both the regular battery and the large battery. They come off and go on very easily. Just stay with it oh, it's got to come off.

The radio was built like a brick so it can stand some tapping on a firm surface or whatever else you need to do. When you get the battery off look and see if you have a Japanese model or a Chinese model. I'm curious, mine is a Japanese model.

I picked up the FT70DR myself last week, noticed to lock mechanism on the battery, plus the push tab. Only difference between the radios is YSF on the FT70DR.

The problem I had was with the language in the manual at the top of page 17.

The manual says to "While sliding the latch in the direction of the arrow, as shown in the illustration, slide the battery pack downward and out of the transceiver" which is wrong and won't work.

The manual should read:

"While sliding the latch in the direction of the arrow, as shown in the illustration, lift the bottom of the battery upward and remove."
