Heck, there aren't enough worthwhile conventional channels around here to even fill a crystal scanner anymore.

It is a hybrid transceiver…
Solid state with tubes used for the driver and final output.
The switch turns the heater circuits of the tubes on and off which was used to conserve power while mobile.

hahahahahaha! Thats just for display, yes it does work, I received it as a gift from a scientist that I knew whom recentally passed away.
Its a pretty neat gadget!
