I finally broke down and ordered the PSR/500 and I am psyched. It should arrive in the next 3 days. I also purchased the ARC software. I am curious. How about an external antenna? I live just North of Columbus. What kind of range should I expect with the standard BNC antenna?

Initially, I was overwhelmed with the programming of this radio; however, with the help of the great associates at GRE, I learned. I would not trade this radio for any other brand. Although some like Radio Shack/Uniden, I found their service and support to be less than desired. GRE comes through every time. However, I threw my ARC 500 in the trash. It was a hard lesson to learn, but I migrated to Win500. It is wonderful. If you have any questions, feel free to write me. DWW

On 800 that is a great antenna but for an all around performance the stock one does well and the $35 outdoor antenna is a great one to mount somewhere outside or in your attic to bring in the far off areas.

Will be here Monday

I purchased the scanner from Electotronics, online. It took 5 days to process the order and it will be a total of 9 days from the date I ordered it......they do not have a live customer service group....you have to chat during their hours of operation.....it was very frustrating.....I already have the ARC500 ready to go....thanks for the information about the antennas......

The radio shack model is identical to the PSR-500.

PSR 500 and Pro-106, same

Yes, I am well aware that the RS Pro-106 & GRE PSR 500 are the same radio; however, you don't have the same warranty support from both sellers. I am speaking from my personal experiences with Radio Shack. I think their support systems are substandard in comparison to GRE. Furthermore, if I am not mistaken, you don't have the same accessories when you purchase the Pro-106 radio. GRE supplies a USB cable. From what I've heard, R.S. does not include the USB cable.

Hi. How far north of Columbus? I live in southern Delaware County (nr 23/315) and have no problem receiving the public safety trunk radio systems, e.g. Franklin County, Central Ohio (Delaware Co., Dublin, Worthington), and MARCS - all with the stock GRE antenna. I recommend wait until you receive and program your scanner. See how it performs before spending any additional $.
