Sup fellas, I just stubled onto this forum the other day and have already learned alot but I do have one question...I have a Pro95 scanner and use it for the 800mhz range only and it works great with the little rubber 800mhz antenna from RS but I have to find certain spots in my home to catch all the banks at once. Like here at my pc desk I can catch all the agencies(banks) but if I move my scanner into the bedroom it will not pick up bank 1 and 3 will only broadcast banks 2 and 3. Will a outdoor antenna fix this?

Thanks,
Derek :)

Definetely! :D It will help because it is much higher above ground than your stock antenna. Hit a 2-way radio dealer or radioshack and pick one up.

Hope This Helps!

Derek,
Welcome to the site. I am a little curious as to where you are in LA? Since you are using the Pro-95 for 800MHz only and apparently have it loaded with 3 systems, I was just wondering where you were that had 3 different 800MHz systems within range that the 95 works with. Baton Rouge maybe?

In any case Colin's advice is good. Another possibility (and a lot more portable) is I have found (especially with 800MHz) placing the radio at an angle seems to work fairly well. I use one of those metal bookends (turned upside-down) and clip the scanner to what is normally the base of the bookend. It serves two purposes, first it puts the antenna at an angle, which for some reason seems to help in fringe areas, and it allows easier reading of the display. Also, if you start to use an outside antenna, the bookend will keep the radio from being pulled over by the weight of the coax. :)

Sorry guys should have said where I was located. I live in south lake charles and have access to the Sheriffs office, Lake Charles PD, and Louisiana State Police, which gives me access to alot of the surrounding parishes. I get great reception in my truck and at friends houses but I must have something giving off bad juju at my place. Can you guys recommend me a resonably priced antenna that would suit my needs?

Thanks,
Derek :)
