Hello everyone,

A fellow granite stater here. I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.

Although I am not a newbie to scanning, I am very unfamiliar with trunking.

My first scanner is a Pro-26, I love it and it has served me well for years.
Until the Nashua Police went on a trunked sytem, I listened everyday, couldnt get enough!!

I now own a pro94 and a pro-2052.

I bought these scanners awhile ago, and at the same time I started my own business.Needless to say I havent had time to play\use my new scanners. In fact, the 2052 has never been out of the box.

I use the pro 94 when I go to the nascar races, but thats about it.

I really miss listening to my scanner and want to get back into listening again.

I have read the owners manual, and will reread it again and again. I havent really grabbed the concept of trunking and if any of you out here have and can dumb the explanation down abit I would really appreciate any help offered.

I thank you inadvance and wish you all well.

Trunking is basically many users on a few frequencies (channels) that change often. Instead of everyone having their own frequency, they have their own talkgroup, which changes from an assigned frequency to another assigned frequency when the transmission starts/ends. If you intend to listen to Nashua Trunked Radio System, you will need a digital capable scanner to receive the Public Safety side of it. I remember that DPW was analog, so you will still be able to listen to them w/ a Pro-94. Maybe a Pro-96 or a Uniden BC250D, 296D, or other various handhelds/base units that are digital capable will better suit your needs. They are pricy, so shop w/ care. You may be able to get a good deal on e-bay or even here from another fellow member on the Equipment For Sale forum.

I see that you are from NH; it may be wise to invest in a digital capable scanner since a majority of Public Safety communications are CAI digital (P25 compliant). (A digital scanner will decode these signals for you automatically). When I was vacationing in NH back in Sept. 2004, most of the communications I picked up were digital (P25) and non-encrypted. On top of Mt. Washington, I was able to pick up everything in NH, VT, ME, and Canada w/ no problem. I was using a Uniden BC250D scanner to listen in. Hopefully, I will be back this Fall to confirm more channels and breathe more fresh air up there than I can here in the NYC metro area.

Hi Dave,

Welcome from a fellow New Hampshirite here. As you may know, a lot of police/fire depts in NH have gone digital. Let me know the area of NH you live in and I can get you a listing of non-digital freqs.

Enjoy,

C
