I spoke with an emergency management director friend of mine who spent some about two weeks in Hanock County right after Katrina hit. He says they are trying to keep the system and possibly put up two more sites.

Motorola came in not long after katrina and put the system up in a matter of no time according to him.

I'm going back there probably this weekend when I have some free time with my camera and I'll take a few pictures of the current site. The system came from an authorized motorola dealer out of Dayton Ohio, but I forgot the name. It was stickered on all of the equipment.

Anyhow it was my belief that this stuff was purchased by Florida Law Enforcement because 1. the county's communication structure was damaged and 2 it sucked to begin with. I still couldn't see how they could manage with low-band simplex after all this time. Anyhow if what Matthew says is correct that's gonna rock. They're a fairly large enough county I think they need to take some of that funding and certainly outfit everyone with MOTOROLA. As long as it's not freakin PROVOICE I'll be good to go. And if they do get something up permanent I'll buy a 7 or 12 ele. yagi for 800mhz and point it to the site, this is for my online scanner feed that is...

Then I'll have all 3 coastal counties covered... MuahAHhahHAHhahAH... YES.. I can't wait...

BTW for anyone who is reading this and hasn't been checking the database lately, this past weekend I was in Bay St. Louis scoping out the damage when I discovered the CC. Anyhow after about an hour listening I was able to find 5 repeaters with one control channel and 2 active talkgroups. I submitted that information as soon as I came home. It's there now in Hancock County.

Also there was what sounded like a P25 system over there too. I'll probably be taking my BC-785D with me on the next trip to document what I find from there. It could of been something in Louisiana but it sure sounded real strong on a portable not to be near by.
