Just got signed up and need some direction on some things. I'm in the position to where I need to be able to contact the AR Forestry Commsission by radio. I know what the frequency is they use in this area but need some help on what type of mobile radio to purchase. Can I buy just any type of UHF motorola radio and tune it to that frequency or is it more complicated than that?

I was hoping I could just buy a slightly used radio off ebay and tune it to their frequency...

thoughts? comments? suggestions of a particular brand I should be looking at?

Hello, glad to have you here.

Very first and most importantly, you will have to have "official" approval from AFC to use their frequenices.

IF (and/or when) you get that, then you can get a VHF Radio that covers the appropriate band and have it programmed, or program it yourself. You have to buy a radio that covers the band you want to transmit/receive on.

Also, I have never seen a AR Forestry frequency in the UHF bands. Everything I know about is VHF. But I could be mistaken.

Thanks so much for your info. I hadn't thought about getting permission from them. And your right about the VHF band, I was just making a guess at which they might use. I didn't mention it before, but I' very far from being radio savvy...but I'll learn. Thanks for your input safetyobc.
