Hi all need some help. I got a pro 95 for xmas and well I was told to take it to radio shack to get it programed and not one radio shack can do it they dont know how! So here I am on my own playing with it and found you all...I have heard that most of my county is digital is there a way to be sure of this, because if it is I will return my scanner for a digital. Wanting my scanner for police fire and ems mainly. Can anyone help me out.

Sadly you are in a bad area. Police and fire in Orange County are all encrypted and no scanner can listen to them. LAPD is digital, but not encrypted, but you would need a PRO96 or a uniden digital capable.

ok now i have heard two things!!! I am :? I have heard that I can get OC fire and EMS on my 95. oh boy! here is another stupid question for someone to answer for me. I have Doct. Ambulance and can hear their dispatch but not the crew respond why is this and is there at way to get the crew also? (sorry i am a newbie and a girl.. :lol: )

You can't here Doctors Ambulance (155.205, 114.8 PL, Base/Mobile) units talk back, because they don't use a repeater. Dispatch transmits/receives on a tower high up, so there units can comm with them. Units transmit low to the ground so the only way to here them is to be close to the transmitting unit, or be up high, like where the tower is (Santiago Peak, 5700 feet up).

Using an outdoor antenna will GREATLY improve your ability to hear the (simplex) ambulance replys (over the stock antenna) and other good stuff in the surrounding areas.

If your area is doing Digital trunkking it can not be done with the pro-95. Go back to radioshack and return it to get the pro-96 Cost around 500.00 bucks. The pro-95 is made for Dual trunking ( scan more trunking systems ). Also don't take your scanner to radioshack that is a big mistake. I had my program and all ready working and then I took it to radioshack to see what the you do. And it turn out that they had the same channels that I had but erase mine. And then the way they program it is stupid every bank has 20 Channels. So when they screw my scanner up I had to re-enter everything. At that time I did not have the cable. So I got tried of it and went out and bought the cable just to re-enter everything that I had that they mess up. Plus when they enter the freqs they don't even give you a description, all the say is POLICE, FIRE, EMS, ETC....

It was quicker going out and buying the cable and entering it with Don Starr software.

Digital trunkking? whats that? There are no 9600 baud systems in SoCal and that would be the closest thing to digital trunking.

Dual trunking? never heard that term either.

I'd never settle for someone else programming my scanner for precisely the reasons you stated, they are usually TOO general for my liking. Nothing beats a good software program for programming these complex scanners.

Digital Trunking is when you have the APCO 25 card. and dual trunking is the Pro-95. I hope that care things up for for you Joey.

Oh I understand it quite well. The APCO card has nothing to do with trunking. The OC county system has law (digital) and everybody else (analog) on the SAME system. The card decodes digital, doesn't play a part in trunking.

Thanks for the list of freq. and talk groups...now all I have to do is figure out how you put the talk groups into the darn scanner! :lol: well I will try my scanner for a few more days and play with it and if I still cant get nothing on it then I guess its off to return it.
