Just hooked up a "new" to me 735. Seems to receive very well on 20M and 40M (which is all I have tried with my ZS6BKW Dipole.

However, when I key the mic to speak, the meter needle swings hard left to zero and stays there the entire time I am keyed.

Any ideas of some setting I have messed up or something?

If the meter is power output it won't show any output in SSB until you speak in the mike. SSB has no rf carrier, won't be any power output until you talk. Just keyed up will show zero.

Also I you posted this questions in two different forums. It is considered bad forum manners to post the same questions in different forums.

Have you spoken into the microphone while you have the radio keyed? On SSB, there will be no modulation, and no power output, until there is audio coming from the microphone.

Have you tried adjusting the mic gain? Check the manual for the proper procedure.
