Not 7000 Replacement

I thought the 7300 might replace the IC-7000, but the 7300 has no VHF-UHF except 6 meters apparently.

I like the clean look of that face and LCD screen so I'm hoping it gets clearance into the US soon so I can have an excuse to drive down to the new HRO in Plano TX for a test drive on that radio.

It's a good-looking radio. What I find interesting is that Icom seems to be embracing touch screens on their radios and is slowly integrating them into their HF product line. The IC-7100 was first and now the IC-7300. As much as I enjoy my IC-7600, if they came out with a replacement model with a touch screen, I'd probably suffer some severe product envy.

It will be interesting to see if Icom takes the IC-7200 out of production. The 7200 and 7300 address slightly different markets, but they may be too similar to keep the older model in the catalog.

Could it replace the the IC-7410?

The IC-7410 has experienced price drops.

Perhaps this is the end of the monochrome screen display on Icom Radios and the beginning of Icom embracing SDR functionality and Color Displays on all of their HF rigs with the exception of the 7200 as the low end HF Rig with Monochrome LCD screen.

I am thinking of getting IC-7410 because of HQ DSPs and because IF Output supports external SDR Tuner.

Now I am contemplating waiting until more info on the 7300 comes out.

I noticed that the waterfall only covered 300khz.

Ditto. Big mistake, IMHO.

This does suggest that ICOM could be producing a VHF/UHF multi-mode transceiver in the near future.

You probably won't hear this from Icom, but I believe that the replacement for the IC-7000 is the IC-7100.
