Hi all. I have the T4Win setup up and running beautifully. I have a Motorola Spectra with a discriminator tap that is always getting 100%. I have found myself wanting to play with this and customize it to my liking... The major drawback with this: I don't know C++ to mess with this program's source code. So here's my brilliant idea:

Why couldn't the devoloper of T4Win make a "mini-program", or whatever you wanted to call it that is simply a stripped down version, that has a network protocol built into it? The purpose of this network protocol is that it allows one to write another application in his or her own language (VB6 for me!) and talk to the "mini-program". The reason I would like to have this mini program is because interfacing to the soundcard and decoding data is a tough one for me. But, if this little program simply listened to the audio commin in to the PC, decoded it into a stream of data, and spit it out to any open network connections, the possibilities would be LITERALLY ENDLESS! You could also have it temporarily save the info until it is called for through the connection. That way you request whatever info you want to keep the traffic down on the network...

Network connections can obviously be used locally on the same machine, by calling address 127.0.0.1 (just a reminder  ).

Personally, my application would include leaving this Mini-Program running on my server since it's always on, and connecting to it using my laptop when the laptop's on. This way I can have a little window with whatever information I want to put in.

Just an idea, but I think it's worth pursuing (hint hint) to open MANY doors for us here... -Brett W

At the present time ... I'd be happy to have a way for a program like T4Win or UniTrunker to ...

(1) identify a new radio system by the control channel and ...
(2) issue a request to the RR.com website to download talkgroup descriptions.

... and as a bonus ...

(3) offer option to submit (upload) new talkgroup descriptions for moderator consideration.

Rick, that sounds cool!! Great idea, but can you do what I was talking about? If you could, it would allow for so much more development by the users... Including a feature like this and many more. -B

I guess he didnt see that last message....

I've been kicking around the idea of creating an Active-X control that could be dropped into VB 6 or maybe a .NET assembly for C# and VB.NET programmers to build their own user interface. Just haven't gotten there yet.

I think this is a great idea. "Amatuer" programmers like us could really use with a better way of handling the data from the discriminator(ie network data) If someone could write a control for this I can see the market of decoding software skyrocketing. Most of us who program as a hobby would be a lot more comfortable dealing with a network protocolled datastream for sure :)

Like Brett says, if someone could simply make a module that takes the serial/soundcard in and outputs it to a more familiar environment. Those of us less professional could certainly "have our way" with the input
