When the Camden Cnty (original) trunked system was announced months ago, it was described as an 800 mhz P25 system, which would eventually undergo transition to a 700 mhz system.

Apparently, it has, but some questions come to mind. First, if this was (and it was) their intent, why didn't they just go ahead and create the 700 system? There must have been hardware, programming, and infrastructure costs incurred in establishing the 800 system.

Second, why is the 800 system still alive and well? There certainly is a cost involved in continuously pumping out a control channel.

Amp

Amp,

Please pay closer attention to these posting when reading; this system has nothing to do with Camden County or it's upgrade migration.

On the upside to that original question, both Moto & Harris gear for 800MHz that's new enough for these systems will do 700MHz right out of the box. Migration is as simple as a quick re-program.

Now, I have NO idea if the repeater antennas are that wide-banded... :p

Another quick question - I was looking at the new submission for this system over the weekend, and I'd like to know where the GSWIN name came from.

I met with my friend from /\/\ today, and he said that in-house, the system is known as the Public Safety Interoperability Communications network (PSIC).

He, and a handful of others, are going with the NJSP reps to the APCO show in Philly tomorrow for the VIP meet & greet. He's going to get back to me tomorrow about what this system is really going to be called, and what the other two sites are besides Berlin.

Picking up 770.94375 Site ID 003 100% near Newark Airport tonight. The transmitter is definitely somewhere in North Jersey.

Along those lines, I have CC 773.79375 S001 averaging a 66% signal strength in Montvale/Bergen Co. I also have a small list at home of a few other ones. I seem to remember a strong 700 MHz CC near the Bloomfield SP barracks on the GSP... :) (I forgot which one it is though). I guess if we all have the spare time to, while in travels, etc., to search the 700 MHz band (those that have the capability) and report findings on this thread so we can discuss notes and observations before submitting info to the database (to cut down on image/error freq's, etc.)

I also picked up two or three 700 MHz Control Channels at Washington Rock State Park at the overlook point, to try to get some sense of site towers with freq's, etc. Next time I'm in the Holmdel area, I'll do the same thing (as well as High Point, etc.) and report my findings back on here.

Somebody came up with their own name. I said the same thing in another thread. Guessing need not be posted.

Radio Usage

Anyone know what portable or mobile radios Camden County may be utilizing whenever they do go live with the 700 P25 system?

If it's a Motorola-built system, the APX 6000 portables & 6500 mobiles (I cannot see them dropping the kind of cash required to deploy the dual-band 7000 & 7500's).

Sometimes I have to stop & think was I nuts to buy one...

Is anyone monitoring this system with a Uniden XT or PSR500/600/800 or discriminator tapped receiver and Unitrunker? I'm looking for decode logs of the X2 TDMA control channel.

I think W2GLD has. PM him & ask him what he has. He did post a bunch of the channel assignment info a bit back near the beginning of this thread.

So with more continued testing currently occuring, I have observed the following VOICE channels (not Control Channels) in the Montvale area: 769.66875; .91875; 770.16875; .41875; .66875; 773.04375. Since I can't find these in the FCC database as of now, I have noted them in the event anyone comes across them in a 700 MHz search find. Maybe we'll be able to piece together the new system this way till further intel is "released to the public," etc... :)

I'm searching that band in West Paterson... not getting any hits.

I'm not familiar with all the 800 sites, but thought being near Totowa, I'd get a hit?

Picking this up about 90% from West Orange. Heard some chatting on TG 1 yesterday, could have been the same voices as were doing "Radio Repair" testing on many of the UTAC and ITAC channels 2 days ago. Don't know if they two are related, but they were testing UTAC/ITAC coverage of several locations for some sort of event to determine which channels they were going to assign to that event. They were testing both analog and digital, I think it was ITAC 1,4, and 5, but don't quote me on that.

I spent about an hour or so at Downtown Manhattan (with a great view of Jersey City to Edison) searching up and down the 764-780 MHz band and to my surprise came up with 5 control channels! I used a PSR-500 using the RH77CA antenna.

All have system ID 39A and WACN BEE00
764.76875 MHz - Site ID 123, Tower 117 Site Trunking Mode
774.78125 MHz - Site ID 101, Tower 101 Site Trunking Mode (Very strong)
770.40625 MHz - Site ID 133, Tower 121 Site Trunking Mode (Very strong)
770.93125 MHz - Site ID 123, Tower 117 Site Trunking Mode (Very Strong)
773.76875 MHz - Site ID 101, Tower 101 Site Trunking Mode (weak)

No voice traffic were heard on any of them.

Here's a Pro96Com decode file if anyone is interested,
