John, it's a long shot, but try enabling "Flex Step" under the "General Settings" tab and see if that fixes anything.

FDMA talk groups seem to be working, but TDMA groups puase, then moves on. I never get the D2 symbol.

The odd part is all the other digital modes are working fine, even the NXDN system near me is working.

I found my problem on the TRX-1. If you can even believe it, I had the squelch set too high and was affecting only 700, and the TDMA talkgroups more than FDMA.

I was used to the previous generation where you had to set the squelch a bit higher otherwise you would have to deal with the front end overload. The TRX's it seems now you need to set it as low as you as you can.

question.....Just bought the BCD436HP due to the rapidly increased Phase 2 happening. Previously had the PSR 500. With the 436 I am getting almost full bars on the Bordentown site but with no activity on any TG. Wondering if that's normal bc I know the system is still new. I do have all the sites programmed in from the database. And what's weird to me is the fact I live on the Queens/Nassau border on the south shore and looking at the coverage map it shows the west orange site that I should hear. Any input would be appreciated since I'm learning the new scanner.

You are most likely hearing a fill-in site that just happens to share a channel with Bordentown (it's noted there are a few sites that share channels).

If no one is using the site, you won't hear any traffic on it...

Unfortunately I think you're just too far. Even the nearest tower of the Bordentown site is a good 50 miles across the water. So it's likely that you are hearing another system on the same frequency. And the Orange site is really only meant for coverage within that County. You're well outside of the intended coverage zone.

What county would that be...Orange County, NJ?

The West Orange simulcast cell has subsites in three difference counties, and its actual intended coverage area spans parts of six different counties. Take a look at the site map for a clearer picture. All of the orange dots with (1) after the labels, connected with black lines to each other, are the subsites for the West Orange simulcast cell:

The NYC DoITT 700 MHz system's primary control channel is 774.34375. The NJICS Bordentown simulcast also uses 774.34375 as an alternate control channel.

So what's actually happening is that your scanner, while scanning the NJICS system, "hears" 774.34375 from the NYC system and thinks that it has found a control channel for the Bordentown simulcast.

The solution is easy: delete or lock out all of the NJICS sites from the scanner that you won't have any chance of picking up on the island.

Thanks for the response. That makes sense with the NYC system. Didn't even think of that... So it's looking like I won't be able to pick up the NJICS system from where I'm at with the RS 800 antenna?
