Sorry for going off track a bit. I did mention the Turnpike ops frequencies before. Has anyone here listened to them? I didn't program them in (my G5 USB port is shot) and I tried a scanner app with them but didn't hear anything. Do they at least call out to any of their ops vehicles mile markers that have accidents? At least I get some info for any accidents way up ahead that can impact me.

Thanks.
NJTA is not planning encryption per a reliable source.

That I know, just wanted to know if they have enough useful info to help with driving down the Turnpike 16E to 4. I do need to find time to send the G5 for the USB repair and program them in. If it's not helpful then the G5 is going to the classifieds once the SP go encrypted.

Yes indeed useful info, however if mobile, suggest each site as standalone, best in a channel by itself and then you must manually channel change each site as you go from site to site. My G repair was quick, now I use a cradle for all charging.

The roll out of new radios has pretty much come to and end this week, with only a new radio appearing on occasion. This morning on the Hunterdon site, I am showing NJSP patched with the new secure talk groups across every talk group that is coming across this site.

I imagine the TG’s may be set up by affiliation. That is as long as all radios on a newly encrypted TG are encrypted and there are no analog stragglers, you will see traffic ONLY on the encrypted TG. If there is an occasional analog straggler both will be active, at least for a time. So for example if the console in Perryville has not been touched they will remain patched, once touched that automatically goes away.

As has been noted many times over the years, talkgroup activity at any given site is based on affiliations. Also, this is a P25 system, there is no analog component. Perhaps you're confusing the clear talkgroups with the old analog SmartZone system, which has been off the air for quite some time now.

The rollout has not come to an end. Troop B subscribers being done as I write this post.

Be interesting to learn how they planned the keys. Unique for each Troop or common perhaps only on the A,B,C-8.

I wonder if the fleet is now 100 percent OTAR OTAP capable.

In government time this seemed quick.

Ugghhh, yes I understand poor terminology, clear would have been more appropriate. My ears are still adjusting to the loss of deviation. 😂

Watched Lee County Fla for a bit transition Fire and EMS, they is how it rolled out on that system. Pretty darn slick.

What makes you say they will OTAR?

I did not say, I wondered.

However it is well established good housekeeping and organization is a must with encryption. If not, it is possible to become unsecure.

So let’s say a radio becomes “lost” or stolen. The encryption is no longer valid, good practice and many policy‘s say.

If not OTAR able, each radio needs to be ret-touched manually. With a fleet the size of the State’s to me it appears to be a PIA if not OTAR.

If it matters, not my bat nor ball.

Without derailing this thread, you'd be surprised how many people  dont OTAR. Its expensive and for many departments, not necessary. Not much top sercret stuff going on which requires regular rekeying, and if a radio gets lost, just inhibit it.

Earlier today, I had a chance to talk to my contacts within NJ DEP, and they were telling me that there's going to be some major upgrades coming to the NJ Forest Fire Service communications this year. I was told to look for more 700 MHz radios joining the system, along with more primary usage of the P25 digital talkgroups as well for on-scene communications. Unknown at this time whether there will be more talkgroups added for each Division for the individual Sections, but it is currently being reviewed. So, for those that like to track radio ID's and such, there should be more radios and possibly new talkgroups added to the cache/system sometime this Spring and Summer.

Also, there will be a VHF patch for each Division to the 700 MHz talkgroups, where applicable like there was last year. This will be for inter-op purposes until all of the new radios are deployed. Once this happens, then the 700 MHz talkgroups on the NJICS will become primary, and VHF frequencies as a back-up for those areas where coverage is spotty or needed for simplex coverage.

Anyone else notice that 3-comm on Troop C, TG 2285, seems to have gone encrypted as of sometime last week? :( Transmissions are still on the same TGID, not 2284.

Looking at my Unitrunker running on the South Ocean site, I am showing very few hits on 2285 this morning, sadly I see quite a bit of activity on 2284.

I'm sure you're right, probably just my SDRTrunk config. Regardless, they definitely made the move.

A second location just licensed for Ramsey. Just a half mile from WROI549 33 N Central Ave, the municipal complex.

Location 8 is at DPW. We shall see which one if any gets built out.
