Earlier today, I had a chance to talk to my contacts within NJ DEP, and they were telling me that there's going to be some major upgrades coming to the NJ Forest Fire Service communications this year. I was told to look for more 700 MHz radios joining the system, along with more primary usage of the P25 digital talkgroups as well for on-scene communications. Unknown at this time whether there will be more talkgroups added for each Division for the individual Sections, but it is currently being reviewed. So, for those that like to track radio ID's and such, there should be more radios and possibly new talkgroups added to the cache/system sometime this Spring and Summer.
Also, there will be a VHF patch for each Division to the 700 MHz talkgroups, where applicable like there was last year. This will be for inter-op purposes until all of the new radios are deployed. Once this happens, then the 700 MHz talkgroups on the NJICS will become primary, and VHF frequencies as a back-up for those areas where coverage is spotty or needed for simplex coverage.
That’s unfortunate news for law abiding citizens. If the law was strictly enforced there wouldn’t be much need for encryption other than in certain circumstances. In the meantime our movements are surveiled everywhere now. Data brokers sell our personal info. Where’s our encryption. Time to encrypt our private info.Just to clarify. NJTA is not encrypting their system. All NJSP GSP and TPK patrol ops on the NJICS will be. The secure talkgroups have already been added.

STR I is currently showing as a peer to the Hunterdon cell. No clue where it is or why it's there, nor do I know when it popped up, only that it's reporting as active right now and has been for at least a few days.
Hunterdon as well, out of range for me though.Bordentown Site 55 reporting STR as a peer.

Radio Electronics Maintenance UnitThe fine folks that keep NJICS going AND support many State,County, and Local and many other entities have from time to time been referred to on RR as REMU.
Names matter. I have good reason to believe “Communications Infrastructure Unit” is the correct term.
Anyone?
I actually like Radio Access Network Operations personally....just sayin...Radio Electronics Maintenance Unit
