But it's RR policy to put it on here. You know, for accuracy and whatnot...

I'm referring to listing the encrypted talkgroups that are now what the clear ones used to be. Meaning the talkgroups are already encrypted. Can't encrypt it if it's already encrypted!

It seems appropriate to acknowledge the OCD efforts of the DB Admin. @GTR8000

NJICS was brought up to date immediately, even burning the midnight oil.

June 1, 2026, 02:28 am UTC [Updated Service Tag assignments for 10 talkgroups for NJSP Toll Roads]

An interesting side note, careful examination of Troops and TG‘s and the use of new even numbers. Why are some above the line of the old and some below the line?

Just to mess with us RR folks, so I am told.
Even Peers can be virtually moved, so I am told.

Someone complained to me that "I can't hear where the accidents are anymore!" So, just to offer a friendly reminder as I did to him, SSP gets sent to many accidents, disabled vehicles, etc. and there are also the Fire/EMS agencies that cover all the roads patrolled by NJSP and have clear comms. Plenty to listen to.

Turnpike Authority would be the next best to listen to for the Turnpike
Turnpike / Parkway system has been perfect so far, with a lot of good information and also the local agencies that cover those roads, if anything, there is more information on Maintenance, if your a smart scanner listeners your not missing much, also word to the word, stay away from the local social media scanning pages their poison, run by complete idiots.

Forest Fire Encryption: Anyone notice the submission to the DB?

Many NJFF insiders here surprised little mention. @Tech792

Those three secure talkgroups have been in the database since mid-December...just a slight tweak to the naming, nothing more.

Thanks, When I get UT and my PC going I will take a closer look. I am curious if there is a transition underway or if it has been completed.

I recently saw my contact with the NJDEP and was told by them that there are up to 40 different zones within the new Bendix King radios that were issued to some of the Forest Fire service members. I was the one who submitted the NJ FFS talkgroup names update to the database yesterday after confirming them with Unitrunker and the radio with my contact. The new P25 radios are fully interoperable, are tri-band (VHF/UHF/700-800 MHz), and have access to many systems beside the NJICS for a truly multi-jurisdictional agency coordination with any type of event that may occur. StateCom, UASI, NJDEP (including the Nuclear Response), Parks, other neighboring agencies trunked radio systems (Middlesex County, Monmouth County, Ocean County, Burlington County, Atlantic County, just to name a few), DEP VHF legacy channels with SPEN, and other 700 MHz conventional frequencies were in the radio when I looked at it with my contact. I was told that the "Ops" talkgroups are for private communications in the field for when firefighters can't use the phones due to fighting fires and have a need for "secure" communications. 99% of the communications will still be heard on the main talkgroups for interoperability purposes, as most of the FF members have VHF radios only at this time. That's also the reason why the VHF Channels 7, 8, and 9 have been patched permanently to their respective Division talkgroups for their zones.

Yes, during regular working hours the maintenance system will give plenty of info on slowdowns, road hazards, MVA's, and other issues. Way back in the 70's I used to listen to the Troopers (and tow trucks and toll plazas) on 154.905, so a bit sad they're gone. However, in reality most State Police comms are MVA stops and disabled vehicle service requests.

Winter weather is when the maintenance talkgroups are the most helpful. When storms are forecast, maintenance supervisors are called out and report when the precipitation starts. Then there are frequent reports of air and road temps, precipitation type and intensity, road conditions, and salting/plowing operations.
