Well it surely looks like LAPD will not be joining LA-RICS. Will be interesting to see how much over time that the LAPD locks comms down with the big E.

People in LA should be put on notice early if they want a fighting chance to keep talkgroups open in the clear.

Good Luck

It is the rebanded Municipal Services system at Mt. Lukens. Municipal Services includes DOT Parking Enforcement and other police activities including General Services Police and the Parks rangers.

The old EDACS system had patches to other agencies, and I suspect the new P23 system will also.

Only problem with that theory of being the municipal system aka strs is this system has a different sys id and is throwing out a tag of Los Angeles police and is using lapd old mdt data freqs.

Its existing LA City licenses currently used for the LAPD backup MDT radio network.

Last I heard they used Sprint as primary data network provider, but maybe they will go back to radio system for such data traffic?

Most likely if the CC is spitting out the tag of Los Angeles PD then we can mostly likely know that The LAPD is going to be using this system. Wonder if Motorola sold them a new system upgrade. It will be interesting to see if LAPD and LAFD will mesh into one TRS.

After a bit of digging it looks like this is the first of 3 planned stand alone mini-TRS sites funded by Homeland Security grant that special LAPD units including Metro will have access to.
Eventually idea is that it will have interoperability with LA-RICS.

LAPD TRS

Sad to see LA moving to a TRS, especially P25. They're just a rotary switch away from "E". It may be a big job programming in every conventional frequency, but that's what I like about places like LA, NY, and Chicago.
Well, I'll be checking the progress and listening when I'm around LA.

Considering that Congress has mandated that Public Safety leave T-band, this is most likely how LAPD is looking to ensure they have communications in the next decade.

Sorry for the old thread revival, but is LAPD now (March 2016) trunked ? Or can I listen to them on the 484 MHZ freqs, via RadioShack PRO-96 ?

You can still monitor them on the UHF conventional freqs as listed in the database
