I got my Pro-688 back, and attempted to follow the instructions to complete the upgrade, and have hit a wall.

This is all on Windows 10. I installed the EZ Scan software, the scanner connects and shows an update for the software, CPU and DSP. I then ran the updates. After it installs the new version of EZ scan, the computer won't recognize the scanner being plugged in at all. I've tried following the steps to use unsigned drivers, and can't do that, because nothing is recognized in the device manager even. I've rescanned for hardware changes, and that gets nothing as well.

Any ideas?

Did you use the scanner on this computer before?

Yes, and it worked fine with the old RadioShack software before. It connected fine to EZ scan the first time, but as soon as I updated, it's now not connecting.

And nothing at all showing in Device Manager? No drive letter either?

Anyone else with ideas do please chip in.

Try a NEW usb cable first.

Despite the fact the stickers still say Radio Shack, your scanner is now a WHISTLER ws1080. Therefore you need to install the ws1080 COMPORT driver (with unsigned driver privileges for win 8-10) and the ws1080 version of ezscan. Both can be found on whistler's website.

If this doesn't work uninstall the scanner and any comport driver from device manager, then power down the computer and restart then try reinstalling again.

I received my 668 back a few days ago. I have to say I'm impressed. Much better reception on a phase 1 system. In fact today I drove to a location that I would not get any reception with the old firmware. Now that the 668 has been upgraded I was in fact getting reception at that location.

Thank you Whistler! Now saving up for a TRX-2.

Well, tried this, didn't work on one computer, so I got out another cable and a different computer and it worked. So something wasn't working on one PC, but it's working now. I did have to manually install the driver, but all works now.

Glad Whistler is willing to help out legacy people like us, its a great update.

Got an e-mail from Whistler yesterday. My PSR-800 is on it's way back. I've downloaded and installed Whistler's version of EZScan.....waiting.....

I use a GRE PSR-800 with Whistler handheld EZScan. So I wouldn't say it's an assumption if they are pretty much turning it into a 1080. I've also read my PSR-800 with TRX-2 mobile software and it imported everything just fine.

It is a common sense statement....the insides are now officially a ws1080 along with it using ezscan for the ws1080, Making the psr800 and the pro668 model numbers in badging only.

My Two Cents

If the radios are all essentially the same after the upgrade, there is something to be said for keeping all of the common issues and questions in the same forum.
