I'm going to Mystic, CT for a vacation soon and I programmed in all the CT stuff from the database, but what should I listen to? Is there maritime activity? Rail? I didnt see much for LE on the database for Mystic, only some retail stuff, I noticed theres village security, but do they call in the neighboring town for PD?
Give me some interesting stuff to listen to guys!

Stonington pd patrols the east side of the drawbridge, Groton Town the west side. I'd program all the Fd & Pd frequencies in. Forget state police, New London or Waterford PD's unless you have a digital scanner. Marine freqs are good to listen to the calls to the drawbridge so you dont get stuck in traffic. Amtrak Railroad, 160.92 road & 161.295 pd. New London County Medics use 155.325. Groton New London Airport 125.600 Guard Copters 40.900, 41.900 , 304.600.

If you’re in Mystic, these are the immediate frequencies around you. Police are both Groton Town and Stonington, depends which side of the river you’re on, but fire is all Groton (GFA). As you’re right on the RI line, some FDs, like Pawcatuck, are in Stonington, but dispatched by Westerly RI and Westerly has an automatic response to some of their alarms. CSP operates extensively in and around Mystic as do the DEEP Police.

Oh and Mystic is a village, but is not its own municipality. Mystic it self spans both Groton Town to the west and Stonington to the east, separated by the river. The Aquarium and Seaport are Stonington, the main drag over the bridge is in Groton.

Mystic should not be confused with Old Mystic , which is a village wholly within Groton Town.

Groton, for more fun is a Town, but within the Town is the City of Groton with its own government, own mayor, own independent police force. Within Groton Town is Long Point, its own boro, with its own pseudo government, the Long Point Association, which is a municipal corporation, as well Long Point has its own own independent police department.

Within Groton you’ll find 10 fire and EMS departments, as well as three FDs not part of the town, Navy SubBase Fire, Electric Boat Fire and Pfizer Fire. Unit IDs in Groton are “G” , SubBase units are “N” (although their dispatch is Station C) , Electric Boat dispatch is Station D.

Stonington is Station T, North Stonigton is Station H.

The “hundred” units are ambulances, such as G300, T100. G, Groton Ambulance 300, unit 300, T being Stonington, Ambulance unit 100.

Rigs in the region are typically first number identifies the department, second number identifies the rig. Typically
1 - 4 = Engine
5 = Truck
6 = Utility
7 = Rescue

There are some variants to this, but for example N67 is
N = SubBase
6 = SubBase department number within the town of Groton is 6
7 = Rescue

What are New London County Medics?

L&M Medics are Shoreline Old Lyme to Stonington, and typically 1 to 2 towns north of the Shoreline, and operate on 155.3250 PL 173.8. L&M is dispatched by both Station W and Station G.

Mohegan Tribal Medics, out of Uncasville, cover an area within Montville (which is Tribe and L&M), at times down into East Lyme and out into Ledyard, with a hard to define coverage area, and they dispatch on 33.0400, PL 179.9. These medics are dispatched by The Tribe.

Northern New London County is typically American Ambulance, dispatched on 155.2200 PL 173.8 . American dispatches via their own dispatch.

In Stonington Medics may come out of Westerly, dispatched on 159.1125, PL 103.5.

All medics have access to local station channels.

Hudson Scanner Guy, the guys tried to make it as easy as possible for you to understand. It just seems to get involved around here. It's Not like a place like NYC with a population of about 8 million people. A place like NYC is actually a little easier to understand and program your scanner.

Just a quick quiz to see how well everybody understands.
1) What police dept responds to an incident on the EAST Side of the Mystic Bridge ?
2) What fire dept responds to a fire on the West Side of the bridge, and who dispatches them.

Now ask the same two questions of who responds to these incidents on the East Side or the West side of the Williamsburg Bridge in NYC. Pretty easy to figure that one out without thinking too hard.

Sorry guys, just hoping to get a few laughs.
Enjoy your day.

Interesting, have NL, or Groton FD changed frequencies? When I was down there I didn't get a SINGLE hit on any of the Groton Fire dept frequencies. Only GPD.. Maybe they changed PL?

I've long wondered why there are so many different fire channels for an area that doesn't seem very populous. Now I know. I'll have to reconfigure my CT file and actually create a 536 "Department" for New London County.

Thanks... I think. ;)

They can't even choose a single band down here for fire departments. Where I live my town is VHF, immediate town to my west is 33mhz & UHF, with UHF DMR in use as well. The town to my east is 33mhz and P25 800mhz 9600baud trunking (which is not compatible with State system, which is 800mhz, 3600 baud). Town to the north is VHF. Two towns west, still very much in my coverage area is 46mhz and UHF.

Within Groton the three independent municipal police departments operate on 800mhz, UHF and VHF, the only way they can communicate is via the 45mhz Hotline, which only the dispatchers have access to.

Within Stonington - North Stonington the FDs operate on both VHF and 33mhz for dispatch, and some of those departments within Stonington are actually dispatched by Westerly , Rhode Island.

You know, it all makes absolute sense.

If nothing else, it makes for some challenging scanning! ;) Who is using DMR? I'd can add that to my CT Favorites List.

Lyme Fire uses it for brush fires. You won't find it listed anywhere.

HUH? That makes no sense...... Lyme for just brush fires? I thought they were using just UHF now

I think OLD LYME has a MotoTurbo setup and fire has a groups linked to their conventional UHF/33.96 system.... Maybe that is what you are thinking?
