Had Pro96Com running most of the day today... a couple of new bits of info...

Saw a bunch of encrypted traffic on TG 2836 for a bit... many of the radios on it were initially discovered on other LCSO TGs, so it's very likely something they use.

Also ran into a new TG that may be an LCFR Tac TG while looking through the affiliation list... TG 2903. 2902 is already found as a LCFR Tac TG, and the radio that I see affiliated to 2903 was first seen on 2885, another TG for LCFR Tac.

Two more TGs likely belonging to LCSO...2837 and 2841.

Here's one that I'm not sure about... 2859. The radio on it first appeared to my Pro96Com on this talkgroup... both appeared yesterday at 7:21a.

I have my PSR-800 scanning for these TGs with recording enabled... don't know how soon it might find anything, but as soon as I have any updates, I'll post here.

Then there's this one batch... 11 almost consecutive TGs appearing for the first time, with 11 new radio IDs affiliated with those new TGs. All appeared today at 12:19p The talkgroup numbers run from 4090-4101 skipping 4094 (not sure why), and the radio IDs run from 3270000-3270010. I haven't added these yet... but 11 new TGs and 11 new radios to go with them makes me wonder if there's just some testing going on.

2837 is also encrypted, as I just found out... looking through the Grant trace, 2841 is also encrypted.

Also see there's a 2839 that first appeared earlier today to my Pro96com (and if I were a bettin' man, I'd bet that based on its neighbors being encrypted, it probably is too)... and 2817 that I'm only just noticing now, but appeared after 11p on 1/23...

2837 had a lot of activity last night, from about 10:40p to 11:20p, looking at the Grant log in Pro96com. 2841 also had a small amount of activity just before then.

No further activity on any of the other new TGs I've mentioned here...

Lest I post too soon... 2837 and 2841 just popped up with a bunch of new traffic... 2841 looks like it had just one transmission, while 2837 is still slightly active. This just started at the 3:00p hour, which seems to be a shift rotation point, as I've heard a number of units going on/off duty on the various dispatch TGs.

I'm only showing 3 radios affiliated with 2837, and all three seem to be active. I've changed the radio descriptions so I can see if these radios appear elsewhere on the system at other times.

Update: At about 3:30p, both 2837 and 2841 have stopped having any traffic. All three radios affiliated with 2837 are no longer affiliated, and only one of the two radios affiliated with 2841 is still affiliated. During the time that 2841 was active, the one radio that is still affiliated was the only radio I saw active on that TG.

I'm convinced that 2837 is an LCSO encrypted TG... I've seen the radio IDs I tagged from this TG on other LCSO TGs, and as of this moment, three of the four radios affiliated with 2837 were all originally seen on 2801 (LCSO Sterling Dispatch)... the fourth is one I tagged with this TG number previously.

There was regular activity earlier today on it from 6:44p to 7:55p.

2837 is active again... and given everything I've seen as far as activity, radios using the TG, and whatnot, I'm pretty sure it's an LCSO Ops TG.

None of the other TGs I've discovered have had any further activity. They're all in my PSR-800 with recording enabled, so if anything does happen on them, I'll get it. :) Will post here with any further updates when I have them...

Well, apparently it was stated on the Sterling Dispatch TG what 2837 is being used for, and I happened to miss it because I was listening to something else (since I'm only one person, and not paying attention to everything all the time). If the person that told me that wants to come forward with this information, then let them. They didn't tell me what they heard, so I'm still clueless. After digging around the LCSO pages on the County website, I'm guessing it's used by the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT) for Special Ops/SWAT kinds of things, but still don't know for certain.

Have you seen anymore TG with the leading digit of 4? Any voice transmitted with these?

I haven't seen them active or affiliated, the TGs or the radio IDs, since my initial spotting of them. I don't believe there was ever any voice traffic from them (I don't remember seeing them in the channel grant trace)... I've colored both the radio IDs and talkgroup numbers so they'll be easy for me to spot if they show up again.

2835 and 2836 were both active today, both encrypted. 2835 had only 2 transmissions from one radio on it at 3:39p, 2836 was active for almost 3 hours, off and on, from 1:13p to 4:04p. I didn't have 2836 before, so this appears to be a new one, at least for me.

At least 6 radios transmitted on 2836 over that length of time, possibly a couple more. Checking the LCSO dispatch TGs recorded on my scanner, I didn't find anything that might identify the use of the encrypted TGs today. I know there is more that could be checked than just the routine dispatch channels, but I figure the more TGs I'm checking and recording, the more likely I am to miss something on another TG that might be relevant if what's being recorded isn't. So I'm keeping the outside monitoring to a minimum.

On another note, I did also see some activity on the Brambleton and Round Hill dispatch and Tac TGs today, some during the time of 2836's transmissions... as of this moment, Pro96com is showing me that there are 1 and 2 radios respectively affiliated with those dispatch TGs. It's possible that since I didn't record those, that may have been where some helpful info may have been. They're both now in the scanner and set to record, in the event of future use.

Hey mikev, thanks for all your hard work. I have a quick but OT question re: pro96.com. I'm using an AOR8200 and I finally bought a cable for it which has discriminator outputs. I know it isn't a digital scanner but should it run data ok to pro96 for decoding?

Thanks

I believe Pro96Com requires a scanner that decodes the carrier and sends the data over a serial port or USB connection to the computer. However, you should be able to use UniTrunker, which is able to decode the carrier through an audio connection to your computer. I can't help ya with setting that up though... I've only used the GRE scanners for control channel decoding, which send all the data via serial/USB.

Interesting conversation picked up on TG 2859 today... off and on from just after 1:00p to after 3:00p. Sounded like 3 guys going through training or something... brief mention of Subscriber IDs and Talkgroup IDs... About 7 minutes of useful audio through the whole series, and nothing that really identifies what it might be used for, or what agency/organization these guys might be with. I consolidated all of the .au files from my scanner into one MP3 file, if anyone wants it. Send a PM, as I don't intend to make it publicly available.

And as of right now, 2837 and 2841 look to be active again... started a little after 4:30p. I want to let it play itself out before I turn off the scanner and stop recording the other TGs to check the audio files from the beginning of its use. There are 4 radios currently affiliated to 2841... some also used on 2837 (since I changed their radio descriptions previously) and others from other LCSO TG's. There are also 4 radios on 2837...

Oh... and another new TG... 2854. It appeared 1:04p, 2 short transmissions... the radio ID matches one of the radio IDs that was also on 2859, so these two TGs may be related.

Nothing to help identify the encrypted TGs again, at least that I heard... I'm going to focus on other TGs and maybe revisit these in the future, but others can certainly feel free to keep working on them.

The encrypted TGs I've seen to date are 2835, 2836, 2837, 2839, and 2841.

Aside from those encrypted TGs, here's a list of what else I have that is still unidentified...

2834 - unknown
2849 - unknown
2851 - unknown
2854 - unknown, possibly related to 2859
2859 - unknown, possibly related to 2854
2862 - unknown
2881 - unknown, possibly LCFR
2884 - unknown, possibly LCFR
2900 - unknown, possibly LCFR
2903 - unknown, possibly LCFR
2904 - unknown
4090-4101 - all unknown

Thanks mike, I'm going to look into it, as soon as it gets to the top of the "to-do" list HaHa. I guess I need to get over to the AOR forum...

Came across two unidentified affiliations this evening...

TG 2850 - was affiliated to by a radio originally seen on Leesburg PD dispatch. Shortly after seeing this affiliation, that radio switched to Leesburg PD dispatch
TG 2901 - was affiliated to by a radio not seen before by my Pro96Com (Radio ID 3261076). As of this time, the radio is still affiliated to the TG.

So I dug through the Talkgroups file for Pro96Com looking for unidentified talkgroups... Found a few, some of which had numerous hits on them. Added some of 'em to my 800, with recording enabled... hopefully I'll get something from them eventually.

Here are those that had over 10 hits on them...

183 - First seen 3/26/12, 14 hits, Last seen same date
251 - First seen 1/24/12, 19 hits, Last seen 4/21/12
2817 - First seen 4/25/12, 17 hits, Last seen same date
2840 - First seen 1/31/12, 474 hits, Last seen 4/19/12 (not encrypted, unlike the neighboring TGs!)
2842 - First seen 1/28/12, 49 hits, Last seen 3/29/12 (also not encrypted)
2853 - First seen 2/2/12, 190 hits, Last seen 4/27/12
2854 - First seen 1/31/12, 1516 hits, Last seen 4/26/12
2859 - First seen 1/24/12, 157 hits. Last seen 4/26/12
2864 - First seen 2/1/12, 249 hits, Last seen 4/19/12
2884 - First seen 1/24/12, 22 hits, Last seen 4/14/12
2903 - First seen 1/24/12, 281 hits, Last seen 4/25/12
2905 - First seen 1/24/12, 30 hits, Last seen 4/17/12
2910 - First seen 2/17/12, 139 hits, Last seen 4/10/12
2912 - First seen 3/8/12, 77 hits, Last seen 4/13/12

Also, a random TG at 3583 (first seen 1/31/12, 4 hits, last seen 3/20/12) and a bunch of talkgroups I think I previously mentioned, running from 4090 through 4101, most appearing 1/25/12 except for a couple that appeared on 1/31/12... all with 0 hits so far.

I haven't been running it constantly during all of this time, but it has been running for a significant portion of the time.
