The last couple nights, I logged a couple new med helo talkgroups on WISCOM.

TG 8071 didn't catch any callsigns or radio ID's, but sounded like a med helo. Anybody know anything about this one?

TG 8015, RID 8001160 base, RID 8001163 "Med Air 2" mentioned Theda Clark in Neenah. A check of flightaware.com for Theda Clark (WS35) showed 1 helo, N530LN, registered to Air Methods Corp of Colorado. Upon some further research, I found Air Methods Corp recently opened a base in Hartford. Can anyone confirm?

Greetings...

I also heard this in SEWI. In fact, they were heading transporting a patient from Burlington to St Lukes Medical Center in Milwaukee the other night. I was tracking them via the great radar website (ADS-B Exchange - tracking thousands of aircraft). When they were returning to "base", they went to Crites Field in Waukesha. I was wondering if it was possibly a loaner helo to Flight for Life.

I have a hobby of checking medical helicopters in the midwest via online sources like ADS-B Exchange. By using FAA registration database, google maps and Facebook I’ve been able to Identify numerous medical helicopters in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.

I have Aurora Medical Center in Hartford Wi being serviced by LifeNet based at Hartford Regional Airport using a 2006 EC 135 P2 helicopter owned by Air Methods Corp. Helicopters require a lot of maintenance and it is common to use other Corporation helicopters while the primary helicopter is down for Maintenance. Indiana University IU Health Systems LifeLine helicopters are leased partnership with Metro Aviation who also services numerous other Medical helicopters. You Frequently see a loaner helicopter in use at various locations outside of the Indianapolis area with this helicopter N145EL a 2015 MBB-BK 117 C-2. This particular helicopter has been photographed on scene where IU Health LifeLine helicopters transported victims to central Indiana hospitals. This helicopter is not painted with the usual IU Health graphics but as a common paint scheme for general aviation helicopters.

In most situations any radio traffic with the ground units at a medical scene the helicopter uses it’s normal call sign like IU LifeLine 3 regardless which particular helicopter their flying. It is very common for AirEvac Life Team, Air Methods and other Medical helicopters to post on facebook if they have participated with Fire Department/EMS training. Sometimes you see the medical Helicopters are the loaner and not the usual helicopter assigned to that area.

I think your correct that the helicopter from Air Methods you identified was a loaner.

Here is a link to LifeNet Hartford, Wi Facebook page. It shows a lot of photos of helicopter N321LN.

The last 2 letters of the FAA registration typical give away who the helicopter belongs to. If Life Net is popular in your area, and the FAA registration ends in LN, it's likely a Life Net helicopter. IU LifeLine helicopters end in LL meaning LifeLine. Parkview Samaritan helicopters end in SM, for Samaritan. Lutheran Air helicopters' end in LH, for Lutheran Health Network. StatFlight helicopters end in PH, for PHI Air Medical group, which is half owner of StatFlight.

The Flight for Life helos (BK 117s) are in the process of being replaced with two new Airbus EC145 C2E helos. The first one arrived on 2/1 and is stationed at the Burlington Municipal Airport. The second one will replace the one stationed at Crites Field in Waukesha next month. You may have heard the new EC145.

Anyone know what happened with the merger of Aspirus and Ascension. I saw a article where one of Ascension copters was rebuilt and now aspirus? Have they kept all of both aspirus and Ascension vehicles/helicopters. Or sold some assets off. This also makes me question what repeaters for comms is current? Some of both?

I guess Flight for Life is opening up a base at Hartford airport in late 2022/early 2023, I have heard air methods pulled the plug on Life Net and it's no longer based at Hartford Airport

Well there's proof that you do in fact learn something new all the time. Not just the topic but I guess I didn't know or forgot that AIRBUS builds helicopters. Darn it now I gotta GOOGLE that. :)
