What a great informational site!
I have been away from the Hobby of scanning around 7-8 years, and just got my first computer around 7 years ago. Been off into other Hobbys and now have a renewed intrest in my Scanners.
I can see I have a LOT of reading to do here, so you'll probablly see few posts till I get caught up.
Thank you all very much for having such an organised and informational site and offering it to us all!

I live near Modesto, work in SF.
Haven't even got my frequencys programmed into my new RS Pro-83 that I bought yesterday!
Been using my R/S Pro-31 (a really clear, old, 10 channel, Japanese Unit!), and my R/S Pro-25 a lot latelly tho. I bought the new Pro-83 to try and catch-up with technology a bit...
I have a couple older Base units and an older mobile (out of service at the moment)
I am both reading the manual and browsing this forum at the same time. Gotta get off and play with the new toy!
I also run a Air Gun Forum, so I need to go and Proofread it before bed!
Gonna be intresting getting back into Scanners!
WOW is this Forum FULL of information!
Working on getting my AM Radio N/C Tech Ticket too. Gonna be a busy Summer!

I have been a monitoring enthusiast/SWL since the early '60s and was WPE2MTN. Now if you can recall what that means you get the booby prize. I'll give you a clue, it's not an Amateur Radio callsign and my CB callsign was KMD7606. I was also a member of the Newark (NJ) News Radio Club (NNRC), rather like RR before PCs and the Internet. Back then VHF receivers for monitoring were primitive, no such thing as a scanner. Am I an old fart or what?

BTW, it's nice to know you haven't died. You DID remind me of my best friend in the neighborhood I grew up in though. After getting beaten up by the local tomboy he comes in the house a mess and tells his mother "PATTY KILLED ME! Well, almost." (;->)

He-He, I know about the old CB licenses, but actually only got into that frecus back in the late 80's.
Truckers and "Potty-Mouths" drove me out. Same old BS all the time...
I did some outbanding, and actually found it fun, but felt guilty for abusing the frequencys.
Studing old Gordon's Tech Ticket Book now... Aim to have the N/C numbers by end of the summer!

Ouch! I started buying it (I'll keep the secret ) when the first issue hit the newsstands - September 1954, IIRC. Never got a WPE though - just a ham ticket and then, after we lost 11, a CB ticket.

Yeah, same thing happened to me around the mid '70s, truckers OK, potty mouths NOT OK. Add to that the anything goes attitude of CBers that in some cases persists and frankly CB died out in most areas. They all drove each other away like canibals in a cage they ate each other and the last died of starvation. At least a few decent CBers are left here and there, how they stand the others is beyond me.

So, you found Gordo, eh? He writes like he talks in person so you can get a pretty good idea how he teaches and demonstrates things in person. Frankly I think he's one of the best teachers I have ever met regardless of the subject, he just has a way of making you understand without confusing you with too much highly technical jargon. Good luck, 'twill be nice to see you with a callsign and a tag on your signature, "I transmit, therefore I ham.".

IIRC? Sorry if I don't remember that one. I may as well 'fess up, nobody's going to (maybe except you and you didn't say) connect the WPE "callsign" with Popular Electronics Magazine. It's interesting to note that you got a CB ticket when you lost 11M ham priveliges and took a nose dive in power and equipment quality. Those early CBs were the pits! Band wise you really didn't loose anything but the second harmonic on TV channel 2 and the third on 5.
