Well, let me be the first to say, congratulations on getting your ticket. The rubber ducky is not good inside a car, get a mag mount external antenna for your HT, and it will work fine.

Congrats! Welcome to the hobby.

What may work for you if you do not want to get a mobile in your car right away is what I do at times. I use a mag mount antennas, hook that to my ht, plug in a speaker mic and keep the radio in the cup holder. That way you can still get a good signal out and you have a handheld mic so it's easy to talk while driving.

That does make sense
The antenna line would stay put with the HT sitting in the cup holder
Thanks
