Not sure if this is the appropriate place for intorductions. Just got back into the scanner scene after almost a 10 year absense. I will be getting my BCD-396T today. I live in the Monroe/Charlotte area. Been a Union County resident for about 16 years. This is a great site.

You'll find alot of us from the Charlotte/Union County area. I've been using a 396 for six months now and you'll be very happy with it. Just take your time and don't get frustrated with the learning curve. It's steep but worth it.

You might want to consider buying ARC396 (you can also download a demo). That software along with donating to RR here will give you the ultimate system for programming your radio. ARC396 will work in conjunction with the data on this site. I think you'll find it's worth it. The free Uniden software works well also. The big advantage I find with ARC396 is the ability to import systems directly from the database here.

I grew up in Monroe and my parents still live there so I travel there a lot. The RR Database is accurate and will give you everything you need to get up to speed on the comms in the area. As for the scanner, I have a BC246T and use ARC246. The software is a must-have for these scanners. It makes programming a snap and will import conventional and trunked systems directly from this database. It's awesome.

For new folks on RR, it should be mentioned that the donation system for RR is changing. Previously, a $5 donation would have enabled the data download feature with compatible software. RR is now moving to a $30-a-year donation, but other new features will reportedly be available for that donation.

I am also a 396 owner, and find the Uniden sotware meets my needs. It is also compatible with Uniden's 246 and 996 software ... the latter scanner will be available soon.

Since the topic is Union County, I was told last weekend that there is still no word among the rank-and file about when county fire tac 5 will go live. Also, Wesley Chapel will be building a new station 26, closer to Wesley Chapel Road. The station design will be similar to their station 31 (Newtown Road near Hwy 16).
