The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looking at the database here, these new systems are in the new 380 military band. My Uniden 780, 250 and the new 246 DO NOT allow these frequencies in their frequency spacing or just plain out of band. My questions are: 1. Will these radios be able to be reflashed to be able to support them? 2. Do the Uniden 296 or 796 support them? 3. Will the new 396 support them? 4. Will these military digital systems by MA/Com even be able to be monitored or God forbid, are they going to be like MA/Com's digital ProVoice and unscannable?

It appears from the reports coming in that the new 380-400 military stuff is all encrypted, full-time. That seems to be the case for the National Capital Region system which will in time support over a 100 military areas/bases.

The reports are saying MaCom, but P25 with full-time encryption, not Provoice. Are you sure about the Provoice?

In fact the database here lists a bunch of them as P25.

Correct, although I thought these were 9600 baud systems. No matter, they're not trackable anyway....BUT...

Those folks with PRO96s or 2096s can read the control channel data - something like Trunker - by use of the PRO96Com utility. Several systems have already been identified in the DC metro area using this utility, and no doubt there are more to come.

If they're 9600 Baud Motorola systems, they CAN be tracked with the Pro-96/2096, BC296/796 radios. Where are you getting your information that they can't be tracked?

9600 Baud vs. 9600 BPS, P25 vs. Motorola vs. M/A-COM

Why is this so hard to keep strait?

The systems are P25 which is a 9600 BPS control channel (at 4800 Baud, if you care).

M/A-COM EDACS uses a 9600 Baud control channel.

Motorola (non-P25) uses a 3600 buad control channel.

There is no "Motorola 9600" system, however there are P25 systems provided by Motorola. (these are functionally the same as any other P25 system).

A P25 system can be tracked by a P25 capable scanner UNLESS they are using encryption.

OK, rant over (for today)

I'd love to know how since they are 380-400 MHz. My Pro-96 doesn't seem to track them at all.

I can't even get the correct freqs into my pro-96, since it's not set up for the correct step size in that range, it rounds off

If it can actually track the 380-400 MHz 9600 Baud P25 Systems, someone tell me how to set it up...

Hello,

When I received the Walter Reed Army Medical Center
http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=3640
I had to scan the frequencies conventionally on My BC796. The reason is that frequencies in the 380 MHz range can not be entered as a base frequency for trunking. There may be a method to get it to work once all the voice frequencies are known but CC only is out. At the time I heard non-encypted P25 voice on the system and was able to id it as a facility with an emergency room and certain building numbers. Walter Reed fit the information I had and it was later confirmed.

I suspected the frequencies were part of a trunked system as I picked up a control channel and a few voice frequencies. People with Pro96 scanners doubted it's existence at first due to the low power and the deafness of the Pro96 in the 380 MHz range. Someone had to use another receiver to receive the control channel and feed the IF into a Pro96 hooked up to Pro96Com to verify it. Since then other 380 MHz systems have been found.

Okay, a ship finally pulled in that is using an analog voice EDACS system. What am I doing wrong to try and program it in a Pro-96?

It has 4 channels according to T4WIN all withing the 406-408 MHz range.

No digital voice has been heard at all.

I have the bank set up for EDACS with all of the channels in order according to T4WIN.

I have all of the channels set to ED.

Nothing seems to work. I here the conversations fine until I press the "Trunk" button or the "Scan" button.

They aren't very talkative, so I'm at their mercy. Please help!

The other thing I remember to check for EDACS is that LCN 1 listed in the RR Database is in channel x01 of a bank and not in channel x00. Keep channel x00 empty and start at x01.

Yeah, that doesn't seem to help. That was one of the first things that I tried.

Because when these systems are fully operational, they're supposed to be encrypted, per many comments and a couple of articles by Larry Van Horn of MT fame and others. It's most likely that while they're testing and getting the bugs out of the system, they will run it with the encryption turned off.

Oh yes, before I forget - you need to use Win96 to enable reception in the 380 Mhz band for those trying to use PRO96s/2096s. Out of the box, ithey won't do it.

No, There were several in right now, but none are the Cole. One was the Nashville (LPD-13).

CC's so far are 406.650 and 406.850.

One of the ships already left. They were 380-400 M/A-Com. Couldn't figure out what the frequencies were as they weren't here too long.

I just wish I could get the 406 EDACS system to work on my Pro-96...

Just curious - has anyone tried using UniTracker with the Uniden digitals? The Wiki for it does say it will decode a P25 control channel.

Okay,

LCN 1 (in slot 01) 406.6500 CC
LCN 2 (in slot 02) 406.8500 CC
LCN 3 (in slot 03) 407.0750
LCN 4 (in slot 04) 408.1250

Bank is set to EDACS.

All channels set to ED.

Bank is in Open mode.

Using Win96.

What am I missing?
