MPT-1327
Here is a little info on MPT-1327. The format was developed in the UK in the early 1980's. The Minesrty of Post and Telecomm wanted to develop a non-exclusive trunking format to be used in their country. MPT invited all manufacturers to develop a trunking format. The contributing companies were Motorola, Tait, Fylde Microsystems, and one other company. While each contributing company had their "specialty" area of input, one company had already developed a strong platform for trunking back in The USA. Motorola had already rolled out The Privacy Plus format. After a few minor changes to the system, MPT adopted the format. The main difference is The MPT-1327 sites could be linked togather to form wide area, mulit-site coverage. Unlike Privacy Plus.
Well back in The USA, Motorola had to take steps to prevent the MPT format to be used and sold so as to not creat competition for themselves. It is still not clear what the had done to prevent a migration to the states, but whay ever they did "it worked". And it worked for many years. Thanks to companies like Zetron and Tait, they stood up to the radio giant and won the war.
Now, one must understand. The MPT-1327 trunking format was very successful worldwide, except for the states, be we know why. This format is over 20 years old. Other formats have been developed and may be better suited for Public Safety and large commerical applications. However, The MPT format is cost effective to implement. Has features simular to SmartZone, and may possibly become one of the most widely used formats in America.
I personally have had the opportunity to engineer and deploy a two site MPT system in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I have contacts that are planning to deploy sites or have already put systems online in Ocala, FL, Knoxville TN, and a few other areas.[/b]
