A new license was just granted for some additional MARCS sites around Ohio. When they will be active, who knows.... could be a year or two from now. But if you live in these areas, you should keep an eye out for a new site control channel on one of the frequencies associated with the site.

Documentation on file on the FCC website indicates there is a lot of new agency interest in MARCS because of a lot of DoHS funding being provided to public safety.

Where I mention a data site being upgraded for voice, it's pure speculation. It could just be that additional frequencies are being added to an existing voice site but the site location is listed differently in FCC records. So I can't really tell you if all five are standalone new sites or if some of them are simply additional frequencies allocated to existing voice sites listed in the DB. I thought I read somewhere that they were existing data sites being upgraded for voice, but I can't find that documentation to confirm now.

My info was obtained from the documents/attachments at this URL:

An application to add New Albany PD's old dispatch frequency (854.9875) to the Alexandria site was dismissed by the FCC today. It had already been in use for a few weeks, though. I wonder if that means it was unlicensed.

It's still licensed to New Albany for conventional use; they have to relinquish their license before the FCC can license it to MARCS for trunking use. There might also be some coordination issues, since the transmitter site is changing location as well as profile (output power, ERP, HAAT, spacing to other users of the frequency from the new site, etc). They should have worked all those issues out with the frequency coordinator first....
