The new Murray PD Digital System went live earlier this week, basically in test mode. The control station for the console has not been installed yet, so traffic has been via mobiles and portables. I don't have a digital scanner, so I can't provide any other details. If you're in West KY, try 460.3625 and see if you can pick it up.

I haven't monitored 460.3625 MHz for the last few weeks prior to today. So far today, I haven't heard any traffic. I'll continue to monitor. I'm still very curious as to what type of digital they are switching to (P25, MotoTRBO or NEXTEDGE). Let's hope P25, but I'm somewhat doubtful given the price quote that was posted a while back on the other thread.

It is P-25.

After a few days of monitoring intermittently, I'm finally hearing traffic today. It is indeed P25, as others have said. It appears that the radio technicians are attempting to link the new repeater with the old VHF repeater. I'm hearing lots of key-ups and test counts. As far as an NAC, I'm not sure, I only have a BC796D. Hopefully someone else within range that has a newer digital scanner can decode the NAC. This would be useful given KSP's use of the same frequency in P25 mode elsewhere in the state.

It sounded like they were having some trouble with the link between the new system and the old. They took the link down a day or two after they first set it up. I noticed there were some audio discontinuity issues between the two systems and I also noticed that at times the audio from the new digital system wasn't making it through to the old system. I suspect the link will be back up once they work out these issues. Maybe someone on here can provide more information.

Would it be temporary or permanent to link the old with the new? I imagine the old 154.860 repeater would remain in operation for interop, but who knows. I heard there have been problems with bleedover and etc. in the console which explains the delay in getting it going.

My guess would be that the link would be temporary. Few departments that I know of have left their links active when transitioning for much longer than the amount of time it takes to switch out all the radios and fully move to the new system. I bet you're right about maintaining the VHF system for interop / mutual aid purposes.

If it wasn't for the technical difficulties, this system should have been up a week or two ago. Apparently the problem has been with tying in the control radio. For whatever reason, it will be on the big tower behind the PD instead of the smaller tower attached to the PD. The vehicle installs were completed weeks ago as well as installation of the new repeater which, by the way, is on the same Murray Electric System tower as the current 154.860 repeater.

As I said above, I imagine the 154.860 repeater will remain in place...unless Calloway County and Murray State dispatch have ability to patch into the new system.

Murray PD

The murray pd p25 ssytem is up and completely operational. the vhf frequqnecy will be kept alive for interop. the p25 system will not be put into full use until mpd can get more funds allocated to supply all there officers with a portable currently the lack of enough portables is the hold up of going completely digital once that is acquired they will switch to p25 for good

These numbers are rounded off, but this system supposedly cost $75,000 to construct from a $90,000 grant. That leaves $15,000 somewhere and there still aren't enough portables? PS...I've heard nothing on the digital channel for a week or more.

Thanx for the update.... take a look at the database, if you don't mind, and let me know if all of the VHF freqs listed for Murray PD and Calloway SO are oiut of service (except as back-up).... have you been able to grab a NAC on the new freqs?

Thanx for the help...

Yeah all is correct on the datebase only thing i have seen thats changed is the Simulcast of the digital on 154.86000 was taken off ... I dont think my pro-2096 will decode a nac if it does it hasnt showed one... ccso is keeping their uhf system and isnt linking to mdp digital at least not right now.. I beleive that MPD is keeping there VHF channels they keep doing some radio checks on channel 1 and 8 and are keeping the vhf radio mobiles in cars so i guess is going to be used as back and and stuff like that

The digital system is finally on. It's streaming on the internet somewhere. I'll have to get the address.
