I was doing some searching in the FCC database when I stumbled across this new license for the NYSP.

Callsign WQJL-226, associated with KA-6004.

It is a 5000 mobile license for the VTAC and UTAC channels, as well as 155.475 and 155.4825 MHz. Statewide use.

This seems to fit with NYSP purchasing new M7100 mobile radios to replace some of the older Orion mobiles that can't do narrowband or 7.5 kHz. channels.

Its not SWN, but if it works for Vermont, it may just work for New York.

5265,

What kind of agency are you talking about that took 155.475 out of its radios? Perhaps it shouldn't have been in tne radios. 155.475 is one of the national law enforcement VHF Interop channels, with the designation, as per NPSTC, of VLaw31 and the assigned ctcss tone of 156.7. The other, as Kevin points out above, is designated VLaw32.

Wow. I didn't even realize that this topic was covered before, let alone I posted a reply to it! So I guess a big Dee-Dee-Dee goes to me. Sorry about that.

Yeah, and I posted there too. Don't feel bad.

My "inside" source confirms that NYSP is going to the M/A COM M7100 radio too. In fact, I'm so "inside" on this that I'll be at the NYSP Radio Shop tomorrow with a company laptop which they'll install the software on to for use in programming the M7100s in the field.

Doing a quick look online for the M7100s specs, I see this is a P25 capable radio. Is this going to be a way to custom craft a new SWN?

M7100's are P25 capable as long as the feature data had been installed, or upgraded using software. Otherwise, they will probably be just VHF 148-174 300 channel or 255 system, which I think is stock out of the box.

Mark you calendars folks...
2013 - NYSP will be 100% P25 Digital. Process begins with selected Troop rollouts of new radios over the next few years and IMBE vocoders installed in 2012. Not sure at this time if encryption will be used.

I havent found any award contracts where the NYSP are purchasing new radios.

I do see an expiring million dollar contract for Tyco/ MA/Com at the end of March

I think it would be good for the State Police to go digital. They may need to work on there system a little bit.

With the money issues I myself would not buy all secure radios.Maybe some for Tac Teams and what not but who knows with NYS
