Drove past the City of Oklahoma City maintenance yard yesterday and saw approx 100 all black 2012 Ford Police Interceptors parked outside the radio shop. The cars already had lightbars and pushbumpers installed, but no antennas or markings. Does anyone know if OCPD is converting to black cruisers? Will there be a change in the markings as well?

They were probably purchased all black on a state bid and it is cheaper for the city to paint on the white themselves rather than order the special paint job from Ford.

There is a new process where they wrap the doors with a white plastic that looks like paint but can be removed. Norman pd has had it for a couple of years on their cars. Any antennas on them yet?

Apparently with this 90 car order OCPD is going away from black and whites and with a solid black design. Did they say "POLICE" in large letters on the side? Was told they are using the Ford factory graphics which is exactly like the demo car design. They simply add "OKLAHOMA CITY" to the bottom of the graphic and they're done. Extra info... none of the cars have the turbo, Patrol guys will have FWD only cars and Supervsors will get the AWD model.

Edit to Add Photo: This is what they were supposed to look like last word I got.

This is the link to the PDF of the Interceptor brochure. Apparently instead of black and white paint, Ford now offers black with white vinyl as sabmc described. They offer a lot of standard colors, and no doubt will do custom colors at extra cost if the order is large enough.

Probably a smart move on the part of the fleet manager to not order the turbo. As an additional point of failure that requires smart driving and proper operation, the turbo was not going to be a value-add for these cars in street-level service.

It didn't surprise me, with the issue you addressed in addition to their pursuit policy, I figured they'd stick with the V6 and call it a day. Of course, it would help if they would just allow their officers to TVI too.

Excellent info guys...I knew someone on RR could find out more. There are currently no markings on the cars--kind of disappointing to hear they are going with the stock decals from Ford. Nonetheless, it will be neat to see these hit the streets.

The stock vinyl choices from Ford seem pretty reasonable. A little surprised that they didn't go with white roofs to keep the heat load down.

The sedan is pretty interesting. Lots of room for radios since it has a column shift ... and a trunk fan ... and a steel duct to run cables to the trunk. Fuel economy is pretty crappy for a family care (tho' not for a cop car).

Seeing as how you guys are saying they were received all black, maybe plans changed. I was told a couple of weeks ago it would be the factory lettering. But, I assumed that would be applied at the factory as part of the package. If they're blank, maybe another option is being explored now.

John Vance Fleet Sales had a picture of one of them on their fleet website but it's gone now. It's a solid black PI with the same door logo as now in all white and blown up a lot bigger down both doors.

Different than initially described to me, and frankly I think the factory graphics would look better. Traditional black and white would look best Not a fan.

Hotter in the summer.

That it is. Using a heat gun, our garage discovered at head level, the temperature was give or take 30 degrees hotter with the black roof over the white. The air conditioners were getting worn out trying to compensate.

Interesting note....they appear to be using "SL" for Springlake now instead of "E"
