For someone who is new to the scene, I am still not sure how exactly RadioFeed works. Can one take any FCC-approved frequency and then listen in? Or do I have a completely wrong idea about it? Any help in helping me understand it is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Are you asking about becoming a stream provider or listening to a stream with a media player?
No such thing as "FCC-approved frequency". Anything can be streamed on RR that meets the RR Terms of Service criteria.
Feed Provider Terms of Service - The RadioReference Wiki
I would start with the Wiki's especially the "Providing a Feed" section.
Live Audio - The RadioReference Wiki
Wow.
RadioFeed is a software application that allows the user to send digitized audio to a server for mass distribution over the Internet.
RadioReference.com is a huge web site that includes many scanner streams that you can listen to with any number of players, but not RadioFeed since it is not a player.
This forum thread is about RadioFeed operation and bug reports.
Bob,
Do we use RadioFeed instead of RadioReference's ScannerCast, or in addition to it? I haven't downloaded ScannerCast, but it looks as if you duplicated its functions, so we use your program instead. Or am I seeing things wrong? (Since I have a spare scanner, and a spare computer that's on 24/7, I might as well provide at least one feed.)
Bob,
it looks as if you duplicated its functions
Curious product.
I have a few questions......
I am a Server Admin in my day job and it causes me to set up my stream server in what is probably different way to most in here.
The first is that I run a true server OS. Right now Windows 2003 Enterprise Server but I do have access to 2008. How well does this program play with the server side OSes?
RadioFeed can start up automatically and if the option is on "Start Up - Source Client and Web Server Use Last State When Program Closed"The second is that I have a rule that everything must be able to run as a Windows service to perform it's function. Less resources, more stable. I have a third party program (Firedaemon) to do this if a program (Like the DNAS server instance the Winamp running the source) does not. Does the program start up and auto start streaming on launch?
Any port not in use can be selected. You mention a web server. Can you change the default port? I am allready running a webserver on port 80, and the stream admin page would need to be on a different port.
The Input Sound Device can be selected and will retain the setting when the program closes. This program is rather timely. Shoutcast V2 looks like a pain in the rear...... a bunch of garbage for the musical folks we never will use. And the dopes took down the V1 software off thier website.
I never liked running the consumer oriented winamp anyway on a server anyway.
The whole setup runs on a DELL GX620 (mostly because thats the last Optiplex with the LINE IN port).
I do have two griffin IMICs as well as the onboard LINE IN port in use, the two IMICs are used for ATCSMON ATCS Monitor for Windows Is there a way to make sure the program allways defaults to the onboard sound. Admittedly even the source in Winamp will misbehave and try and my listeners don't like to listen to streaming digital data LOL!
Oh, I didn't mean that you only duplicated all the functions, I meant that you duplicated all of them. (Then I realized that my question was the result of not actually reading everything.)Say what? Heck, I added functions
Feature creep. The sign of someone who enjoys programming. About the only programs I've written that I'm not still "improving" ran on Z-80s and 6502s (because there's no point any more).and still have more up my sleeve.
How about a 300Hz (it's 2011, although I still find myself wanting to type 'cps') high pass and a variable low pass that cuts out at about 3kHz -5kHz? (At about 12-18db/octave.) Keep the noises out of the stream.Next will be a Spectrum Analyzer and Oscilloscope. Down the road will be DSP filtering such as 60 and 300 cycle notch filters.
