Anybody having issues with Tags not working on the just released 1.8 version of Radio Feed? Reason I ask is that I no longer see Tags being streamed from my PSR-600 since upgrading from 1.7 to 1.8. \

FYI - When I revert back to version 1.7, Tags stream again properly

This one is fixed. This part was redone and perfected(hopefully) thanks to a borrowed PSR-500.

Email me for an advanced copy of 1.9.

RadioFeed 1.9 Is Out

This is a small update but is important if you're streaming text tags using the PRO-106, PRO-197, PSR-500, or PSR-600 scanner. The text tag detection procedure was completely redone and perfected.
  • Fixed - Text tags for the PRO-106, PRO-197, PSR-500, and the PSR-600.
  • Added - Metatadata in the program caption/title area option.
  • Many more small improvements.
No known bugs or issues at this time.
RadioFeed is s a no cost solution.

Available at ProScan on the right side of the page.

RadioFeed is a combination Source Client and Web Server.
The Source Client streams to RadioReference, IceCast, and ShoutCast servers. The Web Server serves a web page and audio.

Just downloaded it this morning, seems like you have a nice program. Using it for both my feeds now. Also, Will it send text tags for GRE 800? If not, will it in the future?

RadioFeed does not support the PSR-800 at present. It may be done in the future if the scanner is capable of sending tags.

FYI: It is my understanding that, unfortunately, neither the 700 nor 800 are capable of sending tags.

OK thanks, I was kind of leaning in that direction too without seeing the protocol.

I would think that it's technical possible for GRE to include commands for retrieving the active channel info via the USB port if the clock can be changed and CC Dump is via the USB port in the PSR-700/800.

I don't know why the GRE protocol is so limited. The PSR-500/600 protocol commands is a whooping 3. Uniden DMA, there are nearly 100 commands.

Off the subject, but on your radiofeed, I noticed some audio slider controls on the top right, does that affect the audio input volume level (reduce or increase) what feeds over the web? I have one scanner that blast on another computer, even with the scanner turned down to one on the vol scale.

The audio sliders controls the audio in RadioFeed only(that instance) out to the internet. They do not effect other instances of RadioFeed or any other program. They also don't have anything to do with the Windows Mixer. The audio sliders attenuates the audio and do not amplify.

Does that answer your questions?

It IS unfortunate. Sigh...

OTOH, at least the GRE protocol has nice start and end delimeters and checksums on the received strings. I like THAT... at least you know you receive what the device has sent, you know?

Off-topic

Somewhat off the topic of yous guys' programs, but I was playing around with a hardware device that has its own VB-like language and includes serial communications. To get up to speed I wrote a simple program to display the state of my BCD996T scanner.

Since you have to poll the scanner to find out what's going on I set a timer to do that work for me, and if I ran it too rapidly (less than about 150ms intervals) it would return snippets of data that appeared to be out of sequence or unrequested that would mess up my parsing routine.

Have you found a practical lower limit for the scanner's polling period or was this device going berserk on me? I can't figure out which, but it's not Earth-shattering, just a curiosity.

Thanks.

The timing depends on the amount of data returned which depends on the type of commands sent and the quantity of commands sent at one time so the timing my vary.

[EDIT]
Scrap the timer and do this: 1) Send poll. 2) Detect end of the returned data stream. 3) Process. 4) Repeat.

Exactly. There are MANY ways to solve this classic problem, but one common way to do this is to send a command, and then repeatedly read data from the COM port (with a short timeout, if possible). Depending on how your write your program, you can always read 1 character of data, or try to read more. Just keep accumulating data as long as it's returned to you:

Read #1: You get back "A"
Read #2: You get back "B"
Read #3: You get back "C"

so now you have the string "ABC"

Once you get all the data, parse the data that's been returned.

I'm sure you can see a variety of ways you can do this, based on the same general idea...

Any future release going to have a username/password option for private feeds?

Are you asking about the Source Client or Web Server feature?
I don't believe media players support login info. If you can prove me wrong that WinAmp supports log in than I will start R&D on it.

I sent support an email but I'll pose it out here too. I'm looking to stream with an old Radio Shack Pro-160 with Alpha Tags. Anyway this is possible? It's a nice scanner to monitor multi-agencies as long as the tags broadcast with it as well.

Thoughts?

No, the Pro-160/162 models are not capable of being controlled while operating. In fact, as soon as you plug the data cable into the PC/IF port, the scanner goes into clone mode. There is no way around that, it's locked in the firmware.

ProScan 1.11

I just released a new version. It had a bug with the GRE/RS scanners metadata tags not in sync with the audio.

It also has a test tab with a few little extra things such as a test tone generator, loopback control, and display of the scanner data.
