I guess in reality that's not too unusual Jay911. I've seen various systems transmit unique or maybe more accurately "right out of the box" idents until set up by the system operators over the years. In this case somebody did intentionally alter the ident to match the location name so perhaps programmed before the site license was issued?

To correct myself here, I should be saying the sites transmit their call signs, not license numbers.

Just to add to the information in my previous post here's the Morse ident being transmitted by site 27. For those of you that are no better at Morse code than I am, it spells MILTON. All the other sites I've checked are transmitting their license numbers - not this one!

So, I guess we can assign an identity to this one then.

Location confirmed. Site #27 is in Milton. It's with numerous other systems and cell sites at Appleby Line and #14 Side Road, atop the Niagara Escarpment, which explains it's range. The non-protected license info in the TAFL usually calls this "Rattlesnake Point" which is across the road from here.

Nice work, detective. :D

Incidentally, if they ever choose to broadcast a call sign, it is VXE879.

Good job on tracking this site down.

Thanks Matt, but now Mike has the upper hand with the call sign information. <G>

I'm also finding loads of discrepancies in the frequency tables here versus what Untrunker is telling me for the sites I can receive cleanly. Much more work to do.

I was reviewing submissions to see how we received the callsign info. I should run Pro96.com as well as you running Unitrunker to clear up those frequency discrepancies.

Glad you noticed, we should get that cleared up.

Hmm, interesting. All of the sites I've checked so far are transmitting different call signs. Was there an earlier submission for 27?

There was in July, but no call sign. I think I know where it came from though, if you look at Jay's post # 149 in this thread:

Jay911 said:
Interesting tidbit: In using Eric C's Project 25 WACN and System ID
Project 25 WACN and System ID Conversion to Callsign
36F-8D45F converts to VXE879. If you try to browse the Virtual Licence for callsign VXE879 on Spectrum Direct, you are told it is a protected license issued by IC's London district office.

I'm also being distracted tonight by enhanced VHF/ UHF propogation from New York State. Listening to the Thruway on UHF and Rochester Fire on VHF. Also, getting good east prop with Durham NextGen.

Check it out!

Very slick, thanks for that Mike! I'm off to try it out.

Edit:

Unfortunately, Unitrunker shows 8D45F-36F on all of the sites, which is indeed VXE879. In reality the sites are all broadcasting different Morse analog IDs when idle. That makes sense from the perspective of isolating potential problems caused by different transmitter locations. (Something I've grown very familiar with working on interference issues over the years professionally.)

Perhaps all the digital site IDs got programmed the same on installation per the APCO standard but Canadian licensing requires specific on-air identification.

I don't think so, I'm pretty certain are that's the Halton Region P25 system site. That tower goes back to the days of the EDACS system since at least the early 1990s and the microwave antennas on it are in the proper direction to the adjacent sites. I think site 27 are the omni antennas atop the big old microwave tower in the middle above the folded yagis, or may even be the yagis.

I've removed that ID from the Milton listing. I don't see any other site ID's on the others. I'm wondering if I added it last year to Site 27 from viewing the system info on Unitrunker, now that you mention it.

Sending a compilation of sites/frequencies directly to your email so you can compare to your results.
