Very nice decode.I just decoded 3 weather facsimiles from NMG New Orleans on 12788khz upper side band. KP index was 11 same as yesterday. MLA 30+ active loop, RSP1b, SDRuno, and FLDigi is my setup. Short fades on the signal. Decent decodes. Signal peaked 10 S-units.
...i often hear this transmission and would like to decode it and noticed you use FLDigi...i have the TIVAR app for decoding radiogram programs...are these similar digital decoders and do you think i could use the TIVAR to decode the 12788 wefax broadcasts?I just decoded 3 weather facsimiles from NMG New Orleans on 12788khz upper side band. TIVAR doesn't have weather facsimile ability. IF you must use a mobile device there are option like Wolphi's HF weather fax, blackcat systems hf weather fax, and maybe others I am not aware of....i often hear this transmission and would like to decode it and noticed you use FLDigi...i have the TIVAR app for decoding radiogram programs...are these similar digital decoders and do you think i could use the TIVAR to decode the 12788 wefax broadcasts?
thanks!
Navtex is kind of resilient on a noisy band. Great catch Merlin!Nice catch and decode. I just did get some marginal fax from New Oleans, what with hurricane Beryl and all.
8502.04 is where I parked. Usually Pt.Reyes comes in good bot not tonight.
Then switched over to 8414.90 and got some Navetext:

...thank you so much for the excellent technical breakdown and software info, i will check these programs out, i seem to have seen reference made to them on this site👍TIVAR doesn't have weather facsimile ability. I recommend using pc for decoding and not the acoustic method.
Reason:
Weather facsimile is black and white. It uses 2300 pitch tone for white and lower tones for black. If you talk alot, a dog barks, a tv is playing, fan blowing air, music playing, or any noise is going to ruin your decodes. You have to be totally silent and everyone else. Some smartphone microphones have decent sensitivity.
The SDR routed to FLDigi via virtual audio won't ever have that issue.
Neither will a receiver with an audio tap, plugged directly to mic in.The SDR routed to FLDigi via virtual audio won't ever have that issue.
