Anyone know if there is any live scanner feeds for New Orleans? I would like to listen for as long as I can....
Additonally, does anyone know if I can pick up the Skywarn freq from there? I have the freq, but I don
t know if I will be able to hear it.

I spent hours this AM searching for a live feed from there to no avail. There is a great feed from coastal Mississippi that I have been listening to though...Check this great website...

On HF, if there are any EOCs in that area, it might be possible. I've been listening on and off to the Hurricane Watch Net (14325 khz) and hearing some interesting stuff. On V/UHF, that's obviously out of the question, unless you can find a feed - and given Katrina's current strength, how long that's going to last is questionable at best.

What sort of activity are you hearing on the hurricane watch net (14325)? The links you provided do a nice job of explaining the intent of the HW net (thanks for adding them to wiki)....I'm just curious what sorts of things you are actually getting on that freq. Are the hams at the hurricane center talking with EOCs in the affected areas?

I've yet to add HF monitoring to my list....thinking about it more & more, though. This is certainly peaking my interest.

Yes, at this point (I've been checking on and off, I've been looking at a few other things in the list), individuals are checking in from around and in the affected area; one fellow in Texas - which is not in the strike zone - just came on and his barometer (which evidently has one of these alert features) read 1002 mb - a very low figure for something that's a good distance (a fair piece, in his words) from the action. It just goes to show you how big this storm really is.
Net control is moving around - this afternoon it was in New Mexico, now we seem to have a 5 lander (Texas area) handling things. Given that propagation is now changing on 20m as I type this,
this will undoubtedly change again before the freq closes to us due to the loss of daylight.
If you ever do decide to get a HF rx, be sure to use the links in both the Utility and SW broadcast Wiki - in particular keep the 2nd RadioIntel Link I supplied in the Wiki handy. It's a heckuva listing for rx resources; everything from reviews, Yahoo support, you name it it's likely to be there somewhere.
